This year's FASNY Recruitment Open House weekend is April 18th and 19th. We will be holding our open house at Headquarters this Sunday, April 19, 2026 from Noon to 4 PM. Stop in to meet the members of the Recruitment Committee and find out what it takes to become a firefighter or EMT.

On Sunday February 8, 2026 we responded to two working structure fires. While responding to the second one, units encountered multiple hydrants with vehicles parked too close, one of which was completely blocked.

As a friendly reminder, pursuant to New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law section 1202(3)(b)(1) and Babylon Village Code section 343-20(A)(3)(a): "No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle within 15 feet of a fire hydrant except when such vehicle is attended by a licensed operator or chauffeur who is seated in the front seat and who can immediately move such vehicle in case of emergency, unless a different distance is indicated by official signs, markings or parking meters." The fine for parking within 15 feet of a hydrant is $250.

This Saturday we will be holding our Annual Blood Drive from 10 AM to 4 PM at our Headquarters - 153 West Main St, Babylon, NY, 11702, second floor. Blood supplies are at a critical level. Come down and donate the gift of life.

Did you know that college students who volunteer are eligible for tuition reimbursement? The Suffolk County SERVES program provides up to 100% reimbursement for up to 120 college credits earned by members of fire and EMS agencies. Reimbursement is awarded on a sliding scale dependant on GPA. Service time requirements are based on earned credits, from 1 year to 5 years following receipt of funds. If you are or will be attending a school such as SCCC or Farmingdale, this is the perfect way to get involved in the community. Many of our members joined shortly after high school or during college, and their experiences with the BFD have led them to fulfilling careers in public safety or the medical field. Volunteer firefighter recruitment and retention across New York State is at a historic low. Over the past five years, the number of volunteer firefighters across the state has decreased from 120,000 to 80,000 - that's one third. The dedicated men and women of the Babylon Fire Department are residents just like you. We are teachers, electricians, police officers, mechanics, attorneys, students, business professionals, and more. We come from all walks of life with one common goal - to help and protect our neighbors. Every member volunteers his or her time to serve our community with pride.
