Aliquippa, photographed by John Vachon in January 1941. Jones and Laughlin Steel built its Aliquippa Works here in 1909 and laid out the town too, with neighborhoods known as numbered Plans. Company control was so tight that union organizers nicknamed the town Little Siberia.

20 years of honoring those who served.

CCBC invites veterans to join us for our 20th Annual Veterans Salute Breakfast, a morning dedicated to recognizing the service, sacrifice and contributions of the men and women who have served our country.

~ Thursday, November 12
~ 9 a.m.
~ The Dome at CCBC

The morning will include a short program of recognition and reflection, followed by breakfast and fellowship.

Veterans and one guest attend free. The event is open to the public.

REMEMBERING A LEGEND — ALIQUIPPA’S OWN, MIKE DITKA. 🙏🏾🏈

Today, we mourn the loss of one of the greatest to ever come out of Aliquippa. An Aliquippa High School graduate from the Class of 1957, a Pitt legend, NFL Hall of Famer, Super Bowl champion coach, broadcaster, actor, and entrepreneur.

From the streets of Aliquippa to the heights of professional football, Mike Ditka put our hometown on the national stage. He revolutionized the tight end position as a player and led the legendary 1985 Chicago Bears to a Super Bowl championship. His legacy will forever be etched in football history.

But to us, he was more than a football icon. He was one of our own — an Aliquippa legend whose journey began right here at home.

On behalf of the City of Aliquippa, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Ditka family, his friends, and the countless fans whose lives he touched.

Rest in peace, Iron Mike. Your legacy will live forever. Aliquippa will never forget you.

The Pennsylvania State Mayors’ Association Mayor of the Year Award means more to me than words can express. This award isn’t just mine—it belongs to everyone who believed in me, prayed for me, encouraged me, challenged me, and stood by my side throughout this journey.

To see the pride and joy on the faces of the people you love is one of life’s greatest blessings. Those smiles alone are worth more to me than any plaque, title, or recognition.

I thank God for allowing me to serve, for my family who has sacrificed alongside me, and for the incredible people of Aliquippa and Beaver County who have entrusted me with the honor of leading. This recognition reminds me that true leadership is not about the title you hold—it’s about the people you serve, the lives you impact, and the difference you make when you choose to keep showing up. I accept this award with humility, gratitude, and a renewed commitment to serve with faith, purpose, and integrity.
