Badin Volunteer Fire Department

Last night, Badin VFD was dispatched to a structure fire on Spruce St involving a large outbuilding that had possibly been struck by lightning. Upon arrival, it was a large two story outbuilding with heavy fire involvement in the second story and attic. Badin, East Side, and Bethany personnel quickly extinguished the fire. The Stanly County Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate. We want to thank our volunteers and mutual aid departments who braved the elements to quickly extinguish the fire despite the heavy rain and lightning. The following departments assisted:

We would like to honor our fallen brother James Alan “Truck” Hicks today on the 11th anniversary of his passing. Truck worked part time for Badin VFD for several years and was known for his passion for the fire service. Our department still mourns his passing and will continue to respect the impact he had on our community.

This morning Badin VFD was dispatched to the Narrows Dam Powerhouse for a structure fire involving a transformer. Upon arrival the transformer was burning on the outside of the powerhouse. Power was cut off and controlled by dam personnel. Badin & East Side personnel extinguished the fire. East Side Volunteer Fire Department assisted with fire suppression and photos. The following departments staged until the event was under control:

Yesterday, Badin VFD was dispatched to a residential structure fire on NC 740 Highway. Upon arrival, it was a single story residential structure that was fully involved. Badin, Albemarle, and East Side units made an initial interior attack, but due to deteriorating roof conditions, all units were pulled out and went into a defensive attack. A tanker task force was called to provide water supply due to lack of hydrants. The following departments were on scene:

Last night, Badin VFD recognized all living former fire chiefs of Badin. These men have served our department and community for decades and are greatly appreciated for their leadership.

Ray Smith: 1984-1990

Jerry Hudson: 1991-1998

Dale Ward: 1999-2016

Terry Eudy: 2017-2021

Each chief was presented a Retired Chief license plate for their personal vehicle. We want to thank them for their years of service to our community!

Badin VFD has been awarded the 2026 State Fire Grant from NC OSFM

This grant will be used to purchase the following equipment:

-2 New Self Contained Breathing Apparatus
-2 New RIT Packs and Bottles
-7 Portable Radios & Accessories
