Monday August 25th from 6pm til 10pm, BFD will be conducting a live burn training in front of the Bailey cemetery on NC 581. There will be a detour on 581 from Glover Rd to Schooners Rd. The burn will not require interior evolutions so the road will only be closed for about 4 hours. Thanks for your patience as our volunteers dedicate their time training for future emergencies.

Sometimes we get asked if we have monthly eating meeting/trainings. Dang right we do. Every month on the first Thursday we train, cook, fellowship, and talk to our retirees that help shape us to what we are today. People say it’s hard to be 100% volunteer but with the hard work and dedication of our members it makes it much easier. (Photos courtesy of Jose’ Hernandez)

**STATEWIDE BURN BAN LIFTED EFFECTIVE 8 A.M. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2**

The N.C. Forest Service has lifted a ban on all open burning effective 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 2. The statewide ban went into effect March 21 due to hazardous forest fire conditions.

The lifting of the burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue or lift a burn ban within that 100 feet.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, burn permits are available statewide. Residents can obtain a burn permit from any authorized permitting agent or online at https://apps.ncagr.gov/burnpermits/. All burn permits granted before the statewide burn ban were canceled when the ban became effective. A valid permit must be obtained.

Residents with questions regarding their specific county can contact their local N.C. Forest Service county ranger or county fire marshal’s office. To find contact information for your local NCFS county ranger, visit www.ncforestservice.gov/contacts.

Due to increased fire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 8 a.m. Friday, March 21 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within that 100 feet.

Bailey Fire Department held its 47th annual Fireman of the Year Awards Banquet last night and the 2024 FOY went to Bill Trimmer. The FOY is voted on by the entire membership and awarded to the member that exemplifies what it means to excel in being an all around productive firefighter. Bill serves as our training officer and devotes many hours training, answering calls, and logging data at and away from the station. Congratulations Bill! (Photos courtesy of Jose Hernandez)
