--Meter Upgrades--

As we announced in December, we are proceeding to replace all of our aged-out mechanical meters with new electronic meters. After a couple months of learning the new technology, we are now ramping up the installation rate. Most change-outs take less than 15 minutes. We are trying to avoid peak usage times before 8am in the morning and after 6pm in the evening. If you happen to see an employee or contracter working on your meter box, feel free to approach him and ask any questions about the new meter. You may call the office at 601-681-6157 to verify we have people working in your area.

The new meters read water flow with ultrasound instead of mechanical parts and have a digital display that is very easy to read. Instead of a spinning leak indicator they have a very precise digital flow meter. If the flow never goes to zero, you definitely have a leak (see photo). We have 4,000 meters to change, and we estimate it will take a year to finish.

We are building a new online customer portal which will let you see hourly meter reads and past bills; set up text, phone and email alerts for unusually high consumption that appears to be a leak; update your contact information; and give you control of your payment methods and timing. More on that soon.

-- Construction Update #1--

Construction has begun on Van Zyverden Rd .

A contractor will soon begin installing a new water main along the east side of Van Zyverden Road between Briarwood Rd and the Van Zyverden plant. The road pavement is not going to be disturbed, but they will bore under a couple of driveways and construction equipment will be active on the road shoulder. We are coordinating with the City and County for assistance in traffic control. We do not yet have a firm start date. See map of the affected area below.

*** Boil Water Notice Update 1***

North Lauderdale Water Association has expanded the boundaries of the Boil Water Notice issued yesterday because of an additional outages and maintenance actions overnight. All members and water customers of the system within the area depicted below who experienced a complete loss of pressure or flow on 8 or 9 January are affected.

As a precaution, those affected should not use tap water for drinking, making ice cubes, preparing food, or brushing teeth without first boiling it vigorously for at least one minute.

North Lauderdale Water will be testing water to determine residual chlorine disinfection levels and submitting samples to the state laboratory for contaminant testing for the next several days. We will contact members when the water passes all tests and boiling is no longer necessary.

Members may call the North Lauderdale Water office at 601-681-6157 or check our page at https://www.facebook.com/northlauderdalewater for more information.
