PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Visit our website at https://sites.google.com/view/bxroadlions

It’s hard to think of the future when everything that’s happening in our present seems to be so polarizing. Consistency in messaging from the news outlets vary from channel to channel, anchor to anchor, and pundit to pundit. It make us ask “What is real versus what is fake? This question, however existential as it may be, is one that we have been forced to answer. In my own life, I will try to find the answer that helps uplift the most people, and the one that does the least amount of harm. Music has helped me in these reflections, and on many occasions I listen to the song, “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” My favorite version is by Judy Garland. She sings the line, “As he died to make men holy, let us die to make men free...” in other versions the line is changed to say, “let us live to make men free...” it makes me realize that a world where we are truly equal takes sacrifice. In the extreme, people die fighting for freedom and equality, but we as Lions do what we can to live in service to others, to help make men free. We support those in need, we support our fellow citizens that have been held down from injustice, and we support each other in these trying times. As Nelson Mandela put it best, “Our human compassion binds us the one to the other - not in pity or patronizingly, but as human beings who have learnt how to turn our common suffering into hope for the future.”
-Lion Kevin

on Saturday, Oct. 12 we held a wine tasting and wine/cheese pairing at Lion Todd's home. Lion Nancy provided a brief introduction how to do wine tasting and provided tasting sheets for everyone to note the color/aroma/flavors of the several different red wines she brought out for tasting. Afterwards, Lion Todd provided a pairing of 5 different wines (2 reds, one blush, 2 whites) with 9 different cheeses including some less familiar cheeses like Pepato, Tronchon, Vincent and aged apple wood smoked Gouda. In addition to bread and crackers, the wines and cheeses also found wonderful accouterments like dates, nuts, olives, fresh fruit, fresh veggies, jams and jelly. Was a GREAT TIME of fellowship, wine and cheese enjoyed by all. THANK YOU Bailey's Lions for making this event a success!!!
