all students can learn at high levels when provided with engaging learning opportunities that both support and challenge them;
social and emotional health is as important as academic performance;
diversity is essential to a vibrant community;
strong, supportive relationships are the fo

empathy and critical thinking skills are essential for citizenship in a diverse and connected world;
in becoming an anti-racist, inclusive organization that eliminates educational disparities and challenges traditional practices and norms;
our families and community are our partners in the success of each child.

🏈 Friday night football is here! The Spartans host Foss tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 4, kickoff at 7 p.m.

Tickets: All tickets are online through Hometown Ticketing β†’ bhs.bisd303.org/tickets. Students who bought an ASB membership can redeem their ASB pass there too. Buying ahead of time means a faster trip through the gate.

Families, please note: elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by an adult when they arrive and while they're at the game.

Tomorrow is also our first Honor Game, recognizing the Suquamish Tribe β€” our closest neighbors, whose community has been here since long before Bainbridge was Bainbridge. The idea grew out of our program's values of teamwork, integrity and dedication, and it's been a summer of learning: 34 of our athletes volunteered at Canoe Journeys, the full team and coaching staff toured the Suquamish Museum, and our players will take the field in jerseys designed with artists Kate Ahvakana and Toma Villa. Suquamish Tribal members attend as our guests, with free admission and reserved seating and parking for elders and Tribal Councilmembers.

See you at the stadium. πŸ’™πŸ’›

First day has arrived! πŸ“š

Backpacks on, classrooms found, new names learned β€” students across the district are back, from our 1st graders to our seniors. One highlight was seeing our freshmen (Class of 2030) at the BHS Spartan Start Up and EHHS Welcome, with time to meet staff, walk their schedules, and get the lay of the land before the rest of the students arrived.

Kindergarten families, your turn is Friday. We can't wait to meet them.

A note for bus families: if your route is running behind this week, that's expected. Our youngest riders are learning which bus is theirs, where to sit, and how the whole routine works, and that adds a few minutes at every stop. Things typically smooth out over the first week or two. Thanks for your patience while our drivers get everyone safely where they need to be.

It's the day before school, and all through our campuses β€” quiet hallways, sharpened pencils waiting for little hands, library books lined up and ready to be read. Tomorrow, it all comes to life. We cannot wait to see our students walk through the doors.

Everything families need is waiting at bisd303.org/backtoschool.

Three things worth doing today:

Check your bus route. Log into the BusRight app to check the location and times of bus pickup and dropoff.

Print your first day sign. There's a printable "First Day of School" sign on the hub, ready for that classic front-porch photo. Snap it, then email it to us β€” we'd love to share it.

Know your start time. First day start times vary by school and grade level, and our high schools have a special schedule for 9th graders.

Before we open the doors for the 26-27 school year, BISD staff spent the week together doing exactly what we ask of our students β€” learning, collaborating, and cheering each other on.

We were thrilled to host guest speaker Jennifer Gonzalez of Cult of Pedagogy, who sent our teams off with practical, classroom-ready ideas they're already excited to try. The rest of the week brought team building, planning time, reflection and a whole lot of laughter across our buildings.

Congratulations to the Suquamish Tribe on the unveiling of their new Since Time Immemorial curriculums for middle and high school! We were honored to be there for the celebration.

A special moment: Barbara Lawrence gifted our superintendent, Amii Thompson, a necklace in gratitude for her partnership with the Tribe β€” recognizing that Amii "doesn't wait" to build relationships and bring Suquamish culture and teachings into our schools. Thank you to the Suquamish Tribe for your generosity and for the work behind this curriculum. We're grateful to learn alongside you.

Big welcome to the newest educators joining Bainbridge Island School District! πŸ‘‹
They spent last week at new hire training getting ready for the year ahead β€” and we couldn't be more excited to have them at BISD.

πŸ“š Chromebooks are waking up! Student Chromebooks for grades 7–12 will be turned on Monday, August 24, so students are logged in, set up, and ready to go before the first day.

And parents β€” good news coming your way. We're rolling out a new app that will let you keep an eye on your student's Chromebook activity at home. Details soon!

πŸ“… Schedule Change for 2026-27 β€” every week is a full week!

Starting September 1, our students are in school full days, Monday through Friday. We've traded weekly early release for one release day a month, which gives our amazing educators real time together to dig into curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

First one up: Monday, September 28 β€” no school for students. Pop it on the calendar now! πŸ—“οΈ
