🎉 The BYS tutor spotlight: BHS sophomore Stewart! 🎉

Like most tutors, he heard about BYS peer tutoring at a National Honor Society meeting. Since he’s a social person that enjoys talking to new people, tutoring seemed like a great fit. He also found tutoring a very flexible way to earn community service hours that can easily adjust to his schedule.

Stewart is one of the few volunteers that tutors at the BYS building and Sakai. He enjoys the more challenging subjects when tutoring his high school peers but finds the 5th and 6th grade students very positive and curious during tutoring. Thank you Stewart for donating over 30 hours of your time tutoring your peers!

We're getting excited for our upcoming Fun Run, and we need some amazing volunteers to help make the event a success!

If you have a few hours to spare on event day, we'd love your help with:
✅ Event setup
✅ Start & finish line setup
✅ Registration check-in
✅ Bib & shirt pickup
✅ Course support/Traffic monitoring

No experience needed—just a positive attitude and willingness to help! It's a fun way to support our community, meet new people, and be part of a great event.

🎉 The BYS tutor spotlight: BHS sophomore Michaela! 🎉

A friend recommended tutoring at BYS to Michaela to earn her community service hours. Even though this is her first year tutoring, she already earned 24 hours that she needs for her NHS and scouts requirements. She also likes how BYS makes it easy to schedule her hours and that they track the total for her. She enjoys helping her friends with their math subjects and they all find the BYS space very an inviting and comfortable place to work. Thank you Michaela for volunteering as a BYS peer tutor!

🧶 Volunteers Needed! Help Youth Create Knitting or Crochet Items for Shelter Animals 🐾

Bainbridge Youth Services is looking for volunteers who crochet or knit and would be interested in teaching youth basic skills while helping create meaningful items for local animal shelters.

Together, youth will help make:
🐶 Dog sweaters
🧺 Blankets
🐱 Cat toys
❤️ Comfort items for shelter animals

Our hope is to have items ready by the fall to help provide warmth, comfort, and enrichment for shelter animals during colder weather.

We are looking for volunteers who may be available for about 2 hours at a time for about 4 weeks. We are happy to create a schedule that works for you.

This is a wonderful opportunity to support both youth wellbeing by developing purpose and animals in need through creativity, connection, and community service.

Items will be going to the Seattle Humane Society.
