📝 On the way home from photo club, the sky over Madison Avenue offered a stunning reward for looking up. The cloud shapes and distant auto lights give this Bainbridge Island view a feeling of both motion and stillness.

41 miles. 13 hours. One island. Islander Michael Cyger walked the entire outer edge of Bainbridge, as close to the water as the streets allow.

In his words: “Last year I did 36 miles and thought I’d finished the loop. Then my friend Matt told me about a trail and a few streets on the north end that actually complete it. So this year I added them.”

The route: a 4:40 AM start north of Fort Ward, sunrise over Blakely Harbor, Rockaway Beach with the Space Needle across the water, Pegasus Coffee House, the Eagle Harbor city dock, Wing Point, Murden Cove, an iced mocha at Bay Hay in Rolling Bay, Frog Rock, Port Madison, Manzanita Bay, Battle Point Park, the Gazzam Lake trails, and Crystal Springs. Home by 6 PM.

Fellow Islander Andrew joined at Murden Cove. Michael’s son, Noah, joined the last 10.5 miles.

You don’t have to do all 41. The stretch from Pegasus to Hawley Cove to Wing Point is a gorgeous morning on its own.
