Members of the Callahan County Historical Commission met on Tuesday, April 28 at 6:00pm. Chairman Amy Hart led the meeting with thirteen members and two guests present.
The Corn Road historical marker on the Berry ranch in Clyde continues to progress towards replacing the stolen marker. The text has been approved by the Texas Historical Commission. We are now awaiting the marker to be sent which could take up to 45 days.
New historical marker possibilities were discussed including the American Legion Halls in Cross Plains and Baird. Information will be gathered in preparation of the paperwork required by the state of Texas so that the text can be written and submitted to the state.
Another potential marker is the Longhorn Studio in downtown Clyde. We are pursuing information including the original date of operation. Several iconic musical artists have made use of the recording facilities at the studio. It is currently operating as Wonderland Records. Any information and photos or documents would be helpful in the pursuit of the official marker.
Our next meeting will be July 14 at the Putnam Community Center.

🚨Our office has received multiple reports of individuals receiving fraudulent calls and text messages claiming to be a Sergeant from the Sheriff’s Office. These scammers state that there is an outstanding “failure to appear” case and demand payment over the phone or through a link.

In some cases, the caller provides fake badge numbers and names of judges to appear legitimate. Please be aware: these names and badge numbers are NOT valid, and these communications are not from our office.

We will NEVER request payment over the phone or by text message. If you receive a suspicious call or message, do not respond or provide any personal or financial information.

If you have questions or would like to verify a communication, please contact the Sheriff’s Office directly at 325-854-1444.

Please share this information to help protect others in our community.
