There have been two illegal fires in Baker County in the past 48 hours.

Let’s be absolutely clear: WE ARE STILL UNDER EXTREME FIRE DANGER AND THE BURN BAN IS IN EFFECT.

This is NOT the time to burn. Not a burn pile. Not trash. Not brush. Not “just a small fire.”

🔥 DO NOT BURN. PERIOD.

Under these conditions, a fire can escape quickly and spread out of control, putting homes, property, wildlife, and firefighters at risk.

Please take the burn ban seriously. One careless decision can have devastating consequences for our entire community.

If you see someone burning illegally, report it.

🚩 RED FLAG WARNING 🚩

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Baker County from 2:00PM August 13th through 7:00PM August 14th for scattered thunderstorms with gusty erratic winds up to 45mph.

Please help your local fire agencies by being cautious with your outdoor activities and promptly reporting any fires you see. Extreme fire danger still exists and firefighters will be busy with new lightning caused starts.

Yesterday, Congressman Cliff Bentz held a Wildfire Work Session at the Baker County Fairgrounds, Conference, & Event Center.

Ranchers and Rangeland Fire Protection Association volunteers were frank about the shortcomings they encountered on the Powder River and Fox Fires when it came to communication, fire-fighting tactics and lack of resources.

Chief Sean Lee voiced his concerns, sharing that Baker Rural Fire offered to respond for structure protection multiple times but was turned down repeatedly by the fire management team.

In times of crisis, standing idly by is not an option. We believe protecting our community's livelihoods and resources is a priority.

This incredible group came up with the idea to create a care package with all the goodies and deliver it to our station.

If you've ever had to dial 911, you know every single one of these dispatchers is top tier. Their professionalism and generosity are unmatched.
