This past week Baker Police Officers spent two days training to respond to an active shooter situation at schools in our jurisdiction. Baker High School Faculty and Staff were also informed on measures and procedures they can take to make themselves more prepared as well. We would like to thank Orion Training Group for providing all of this valuable training!

At approximately 12:08 a.m. on August 3, 2026, Baker Police Department officers responded to a shooting incident at Buffalo Food Mart on Groom Road after three individuals with gunshot wounds arrived at local hospitals by private vehicles.

This appears to be an isolated incident involving individuals who are known to one another. Detectives have identified the involved parties, and arrests are pending as the investigation continues.
There is no known ongoing threat to the public.

On July 16, 2026, officers with the Baker Police Department responded to the Buffalo Food Mart, located at 4016 Groom Road, in reference to a report of shots fired.

As a result of the incident, one individual sustained fatal injuries.

This remains an active and ongoing homicide investigation. To protect the integrity of the investigation, no additional details are being released at this time.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Baker Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at (225) 775-6000, Ext. 7, or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867. Information provided to Crime Stoppers that leads to an arrest may qualify for a cash reward.

Please help us locate a runaway teen!

On 06/26/2026, Baker Police Department Officers were notified of a missing juvenile. She was identified as Kaylynn Gordon, 15 years old

We were informed that Kaylynn was as last seen around 10pm leaving her home on Groom Road.

Kaylynn was last seen wearing gray tights, a pink sports bra, and white Crocs. She described Kaylynn as being approximately 5’4” to 5’7” tall, weighing approximately 140 pounds.

If you know there whereabouts of Kaylynn, please contact the Baker Police Department at 225-775-6000 to help get her back home safely.

With this weeks expected rainfall we would like to remind people to avoid Groom Road in particular if possible. This road is under construction for drainage repair now, but is still experiencing flooding during moderate rain. If you drive on a flooded street there is a high chance that your vehicle will flood.

If you call 911 for this, emergency responders will come make sure you can get out of the high water safely. But your vehicle won’t be removed until the water recedes.

Please be safe and take extra time to get where you need to go high and dry.

UPDATE: Kennedy is home safe, per her family. Thank you everyone for the concern and shares.

Help us find a missing/runaway teen. Kennedy Morrison was reported missing by her mother and was last seen 24 hours ago. She is 15 years of age and it’s unknown what she was last wearing. It’s believed that she has fled home with an adult male she may have met online. We believe she is still in the Baker/Baton Rouge area. If you know her whereabouts, please contact the Baker Police Department at 225-775-6000 and ask to speak with someone in Criminal Investigations.
