⚠️ We have confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus (WNV) in Kern County for 2026. 🦟
West Nile Virus (WNV) is spread by mosquitoes, mainly in summer and early fall. While most infections are mild, around 20% exhibit symptoms like fever, body aches, or nausea. Less than 1% may develop severe illness affecting the brain. If you have symptoms, consult your healthcare provider.

To reduce mosquito breeding, eliminate standing water, clean containers weekly, maintain pools, and report infestations.

Minimize your risk by avoiding mosquitoes, wearing long sleeves, using repellant, and securing screens on doors and windows. For more information, visit us at http://kernpublichealth.com and contact local vector control for significant mosquito issues.
