Celebrating Our Physical Therapists! 🎉

Physical therapists at the Medical Therapy Unit (MTU) for the California Children’s Services (CCS) program make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families every day. Through personalized care and dedication, they help children build strength, improve mobility, balance, and coordination, and reach important developmental milestones. By helping children develop essential motor skills and gain greater independence in daily activities, physical therapists empower them to thrive at home, at school, and in their communities. SIDS prevention starts with a safer sleep space and many of the items crossed out can create unnecessary sleep risks. This month, we’re raising awareness about the importance of safe sleep practices to help protect our youngest community members.
Remember the ABCs of safe sleep:
Alone — Keep your baby’s sleep space free of pillows, blankets, and toys.
Back — Always place your baby on their back for every sleep.
Crib — Use a firm, flat mattress in a safety-approved crib, bassinet, or play yard.
Every baby deserves a safe place to sleep. Share these reminders with family and friends to help spread awareness and support safe sleep in our community.

E-bikes Class 1 & 2: Riders under 18 must wear a properly
fitted helmet ⚡
Class 3: Must be 16+ and wear a helmet, regardless
of age ⚡

E-motos
Riders & passengers must wear a DOT-approved
motorcycle helmet. ❗
Remember, e-bikes are allowed on public streets.
E-motos are NOT and designed primarily for off
highway use.

🚫 RECALL: Lior Brand Ground Cinnamon

This ground cinnamon contains unsafe levels of lead, which can make young children very sick.

The recall affects 90-gram jars with lot number GAP11304.

If you have this product, stop using it right away and return it to the store for a full refund.

Parents should have their children tested for lead exposure if they ate this cinnamon.

Did you know that every 11 seconds, an older adult is seen in an emergency room for a fall-related injury? Many falls are preventable. Practice these tips to avoid falls at home:
• ​Clear the way. Remove tripping hazards and move furniture to create a path.
• Light it up. Use bright, non-glare bulbs to help you see.
• Have a seat. Sit while getting dressed or putting on shoes.
• Secure support. Use a shower seat, grab bar, and an adjustable-height handheld showerhead to make bathing easier.
• Store for success. Keep frequently used items between waist and shoulder height.

Visit www.ncoa.org/tools/falls-free-checkup to check your falls risk, and talk with a health care provider about how to reduce your risk for falls.

We are so excited to celebrate our October Employees. Our Employee of the Month goes to Shantell Waldo, from our HIV/STD program. Shantell is recognized for knowing how to step up for her staff and always offering support. She has so much knowledge, experience and passion for the work she does in helping people and always wants to make sure she imparts these characteristics onto her team.

Our Excellence Awardee goes to Brittany Fontejon from our Laboratory and Babyruth Garing from our Health Officer’s Clinic. Brittany is recognized for consistently leading by example and demonstrating what it means to be a supportive and engaged leader. Babyruth is recognized for consistently stepping up to help other employees and even other programs when needed.
