Thanks to the generosity of Kern Family Health Care (KFHC), 46 enthusiastic children from the CAPK Friendship House Summer Aquatic STEM Program experienced an unforgettable educational adventure at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California.

For many of the children, this was their very first visit to a major aquarium — and the excitement was evident from the moment the bus arrived. Eyes lit up as they stepped through the aquarium doors and were greeted by vibrant displays of marine life. From touching sea stars and stingrays in interactive exhibits to watching sea otters play and learning about the ecosystems of the Pacific Ocean, every moment was filled with wonder and discovery.

“This is the best day ever!” one student exclaimed, as they watched the penguins play.

The field trip tied directly into the summer program’s focus on aquatic science, giving students the chance to see in real life what they had been learning in the classroom — including lessons on marine life, ocean conservation, and the impact of pollution on aquatic ecosystems. The visit not only sparked joy and curiosity but also deepened the children's understanding of the importance of protecting our oceans.

This was more than just a field trip — it was a powerful educational moment that created lasting memories. We are incredibly grateful to KFHC for making this possible. Without their support, many of these children wouldn’t have had access to such an enriching opportunity.

On behalf of CAPK, the children, and our entire program team, we extend our heartfelt thanks to KFHC for their investment in youth education.

🎒 Our Back 2 School event at the Friendship House Community Center Bakersfield was filled with smiles, supplies, and support!

We handed out backpacks, school supplies, food boxes, fresh haircuts, and lunch to hundreds of local families—helping kids start the school year ready to succeed.
