Thank you to all who participated in our clothing drive for the homeless "Help Warm Those in Need."
Thanks to financial contributions from the Bakersfield East Rotary Club and the Twilight Club of Rotary Bakersfield, Kern County Rotaract was able to purchase undergarments and thermal socks for the occupants of Mercy House: Brundage Lane Navigation Center. Along with those, we received numerous donations in the form of sweat-tops, sweat-pants, jackets, coats and additional thermal wear.
On Sunday, two Rotarians from BERC, two Rotarians from Twilight, two members of Kern County Rotaract and a friend of Rotary helped sort and organize through all the donated items. The following day, the items were taken to the Brundage Lane Navigation Center.
Thanks to Michele Brown and Robin Paggi, the presidents of East and Twilight, for your generous financial assistance.
A special thanks goes out to Michele Brown for allowing use of her space and all those who helped sort and organize including Fernando Aguirre, Michele Brown, Brad Henderson, Nancy Pollard, Tyler Esparza and Susie Diehl.
Also, thanks to Victor Palacio at the navigation center for answering any questions we had.
From our flyer:
"We are in the fortunate position where we do not have to worry about not having a place to call home. In other words, we often don’t ever have to start from zero.
When we use empathy to gain perspective on the plights of others and consequently aid them, we are creating a community which is more supportive instead of critical."
