Wounded Heroes Fund Dedicated to providing assistance to our brave service men and women. She could not help her father and other returning Vietnam veterans.

The Wounded Heroes Fund is a service organization for those Veterans affected by the war on terror in an effort to provide them with support and appreciation they need in their return to civilian life. The Wounded Heroes Fund (WHF) is a community-wide organization dedicated to providing assistance to brave service men and women returning home from the battlegrounds of Iraq and Afghanistan. Wendy Porter, the daughter of a Vietnam veteran, realized that more needed to be accomplished, especially for service members and their families to resume life after war. However, as Executive Director of the Wounded Heroes Fund, she is leading the effort to help the men and women who fought for our freedom in the Middle East.

25 years ago, our world changed.
Today, we honor every veteran who stepped forward to serve our country following 9/11.

One of them was Wesley Leon.

At just 18 years old, Wesley joined the U.S. Army and went on to serve three tours in Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division.

On his final deployment, an IED took both of his legs.

But it didn't take his purpose.

17 years ago, Wesley became the very first veteran helped by the Wounded Heroes Fund. Today, he is a business leader, public speaker, philanthropist, athlete, and community leader who has spoken at more than 1,000 events, inspiring others to overcome adversity.

This year, we are honored to welcome Wesley as our speaker for An Evening with an American Hero on October 10, 2026.

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the extraordinary courage of the first responders, service members, and everyday Americans who answered the call in the moments, days, and years that followed.

Twenty-five years later, we remember not only the tragedy of that day, but also the strength, unity, and resilience that brought our nation together.

We honor those we lost. We remember those who ran toward danger. We stand with the families who carry their memory. And we remain forever grateful to all who answered the call to serve.

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was forever changed by the events of September 11, 2001.

In the days, months, and years that followed, thousands of Americans answered the call to serve. They left behind their families, careers, and comforts to defend our country and protect our freedoms. Their stories are ones of courage, sacrifice, resilience, and service.

Now, 25 years later, we have an opportunity to do something simple but meaningful: listen, remember, and stand behind them.

Join us at Evening with an American Hero as we honor the men and women who answered the call after 9/11 and recognize the veterans in our community whose service continues to inspire us today.
