👨🍳 WE’RE HIRING: EXTRA HELP YOUTH SERVICES OFFICER – COOK
Are you an experienced cook looking for a career where your skills can make a difference?
The Kern County Probation Department is looking for an Extra Help Youth Services Officer – Cook to prepare and serve meals while helping supervise and mentor youth in our facilities.
This is more than a kitchen job. You’ll prepare meals, manage food and supplies, maintain kitchen operations, and work directly with youth in a secure facility. You’ll also help teach proper kitchen practices, maintain safety and security, and use a trauma-informed approach when working with youth.
🍽️ Do you have the right experience?
Applicants must have one year of experience preparing food in large quantities in an institutional, hospital, full-service restaurant, or similar large-scale setting requiring the use of bulk/stock ingredients.
Think hospitals, correctional facilities, large institutional kitchens, or high-volume commercial kitchens — not simply preparing meals in a small-scale setting.
🎓 No qualifying experience? Completion of an accredited culinary arts program may also qualify.
📋 What you’ll do:
• Prepare and serve meals from established menus
• Plan menus and order food and supplies
• Maintain kitchen equipment and facilities
• Supervise and instruct youth during kitchen operations
• Build positive relationships with youth while supporting rehabilitation
If you’re a skilled food-service professional who wants to use your experience to serve your community and positively impact the lives of young people, this could be your next opportunity.
