Today, the Bakersfield Fire Department joins our community in honoring and remembering the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Memorial Day is a time to pause, reflect, and remember those who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we are privileged to enjoy.

We honor their courage, their service, and their sacrifice. We will never forget.

April 24th – Multiple reports came in of a house fire. Our crews arrived on scene and received word that there may have been one or two people inside the structure. Bakersfield Fire Department made entry and conducted a search. Everyone was accounted for and safely out of the building with no injuries reported. Thanks to the quick actions of our firefighters, the fire was brought under control in under five minutes.

A big thank you to R&L Dismantling on Edison Highway for their generous support of the Bakersfield Fire Department today. Thanks to their donation of vehicles, training space, and time, our firefighters were able to sharpen their vehicle extrication skills while simulating the rescue of a trapped victim in a severe traffic collision. Partnerships like this help ensure our crews stay prepared to serve our community at the highest level. We truly appreciate your support!

From fire alarm operators of the 50s to today’s Emergency Communications Center, the mission has always been the same.
Behind every call is a calm, steady voice—guiding responders and serving our community when it matters most.
Today, our dispatchers operate in a joint communications facility, handling more than 320,000 calls each year and supporting response across over 8,000 square miles for the City of Bakersfield and Kern County.
They may not be seen on scene, but they are always there.
We appreciate our dispatchers, past and present, for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to service.
