WE ARE RELAUNCHING WE ARE MITCHELL - THE PODCAST

We have refreshed the We Are Mitchell podcast. While it was started to share information on recovery from Helene (and will continue to provide information on the storm as it is made available), we are expanding the scope of our program to share details on events, places, and people in Mitchell County.

We relaunch with a program from Mitchell County Cooperative Extension. Preserve, Plan, and Prosper is an August 26th workshop that will provide information on farm and forest land preservation. It allows landowners to learn more about preservation of their properties along with land succession planning opportunities. Brandon Pitman, Extension Agent for Mitchell County joins us to talk more about this special day.

MITCHELL COUNTY LICENSE PLATE AGENCY NOW OFFERS INSTANT VEHICLE TITLES

The Mitchell County License Plate Agency office in Spruce Pine is now offering instant vehicle titles as a new service.

Shelley Buchanan, director of the agency, says the new service provides better service to citizens. “We now have a special printer that prints North Carolina titles instantly. These are the normal red and white titles just like the ones folks are used to getting in the mail from Raleigh,” she said.

If a citizen comes into the agency with a title in hand to transfer ownership of a vehicle, they can leave with an issued instant title. These new titles can also be issued for title transfers from an MCO (Manufacturers Certificate of Origin for a new vehicle), an MVR 191 (the regular North Carolina vehicle title), and out-of-state title transfers. The new instant title costs $105.75. The usual title processing service is still available from Raleigh for $66.75.

If a duplicate North Carolina title is requested, there is a 15-day waiting period, with the title available for pickup on the 16th day after it was requested and paid for.

There are some vehicles on which instant titles are not allowed to be issued: Antique Vehicles, Court Orders, Government 97 Titles, Green Slips License and Theft Titles), Salvage titles, and Indemnity Bonds.
