Roan Moan

Roan Moan The Roan Moan http://bakersvillefireandrescue.org/roanmoan.htm is an annual group bicycle ride that occurs on the last Saturday of July.

The Roan Moan is an 100.5 k endurance ride that starts in Bakersville, NC, and includes some of the most beautiful scenery in southern Appalachia. It happens on the last Saturday of July and includes a Century, Metric Century, and 35-mile ride. All rides are challenging and include the dramatic climb to Carvers Gap on Roan Mountain, elevation 5512'.

Folks, regrettably there will not be a supported Roan Moan in 2018. If interested in riding informally on July 28 or another time, you may email me at [email protected]. Again, there is no sponsored or supported Roan Moan in 2018, and BVFR is not responsible for any problems associated with such a ride. We will post here if a ride is planned for 2019.

Sorry to say, folks, but the 2017 Roan Moan is cancelled. We are looking forward to next year to see what needs to happen to make this a sustainable and memorable event, and I will publish more info here when we decide on a plan. Thanks to all for your supportive comments and we hope to see you in 2018!

We are getting ready to sit down for some planning on our baby, that little moaning Roanie. Planning to put up the registration page soon!
There will be a metric, a century, and a 35mile ride.
Welcome input on additional features we can add (sorry, a Burbank to Glen Ayre tunnel will not be one of them)
July 29 is the day.

Century Ride (YES!): Bakersville to Tipton Hill, Spivey Gap, Erwin, Unicoi, Limestone Cove, Simmerly Creek, Tweetsie RR Grade, Doe River, Roan Mountain

Metric Ride: Bakersville to Buladean, Iron Mountain, Limestone Cove, Simmerly Creek, Tweetsie RR Grade, Doe River, Roan Mountain

35 Mile Roan Ride: Bakersville to Red Hill, Fork Mountain, Glen Ayre and Roan Mountain

All rides have support and at least one BIG hill. Barbecue at the end. The Mountain is calling!
