Today, we remember and put forth the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an advocate for human rights and civil justice.

But also today, we must remember that quoting him or sharing a post about him one day out of the year is not enough. We must live by his (and other’s) words for equality.

Today, I challenge you to do one thing that helps another person out. Whether it be a donation, volunteer hours, or simply reading a book and educating yourself.

We’re here to help!! We provide many books on equality and the fight for justice for all. Check one out today!

Hi Everyone,

I’d like to take a minute of your time to talk about a beautiful soul who supported me up until the end of her life. Cheryl Frazier Burnett is and was the definition of kindness and compassion.
💛
She embodied the spirit of my goals as steward of the Bakersville Little Free Library more than anyone.
💛
Although we never met each other in person, she believed in my mission to spread kindness to all people. The world will forever miss Cheryl. As one of my biggest supporters, she picked out books she felt would be beneficial and appreciated in my community. She had such a unique personality and you really could feel her empathy through just a text message.
💛
She was such an incredible person and book enthusiast. She always knew what book to send and at the right time. This Jane Austen book was put in the library yesterday, in her honor. She donated this book quite some time ago, but I felt that now was the right time to put it in the collection. Cheryl is the heart of the Bakersville Little Free Library. Through her we will continue to become more kind and compassionate people.
💛
My heart goes out to , her son. But I already know that the spirit of Cheryl lives on forever through him. He’s just as generous and kind. I truly will miss Cheryl forever.

Hi everyone! It’s been a little while since I’ve posted on here, so here’s a new book that we are featuring in the library! I am much more active on the Bakersville Little Free Library‘s Instagram page so please head on over there and give us a follow!

I pre-read each book that goes into the collection to make sure that we offer the best books available to you. I can wholeheartedly say that this is one of my new favorite books in the library.

This book is an incredible look into the life of young people facing poverty. Ann Braden creates a coming of age story about Zoey, a seventh grader who just wants to go to school without worrying about her three younger siblings she must pick up from the bus every day; while her mom works shifts at a pizza restaurant. But life creates bigger problems for Zoey when she finds out that her mom‘s boyfriend, Lenny, isn’t treating her mom right. Zoey must find a way to convince her mom to agree and see what Zoey sees; someone who discredits their opponent.

Throughout the story Zoey will find her voice through a debate club, and learn what it means to speak up for yourself and others.

I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have. Please always feel free to leave us a note in the guestbook! We’d love to meet you.
