This week I joined fellow SGVCOG and SGVRHT Board members and staff for a volunteer day in Pomona, helping transform a former church into a new transitional housing and workforce development hub.

We rolled up our sleeves and helped paint and prepare the space for its opening later this year. More than just renovating a building, this project is about creating housing, supportive services, and pathways to economic opportunity for San Gabriel Valley residents.

I’m proud to be part of regional efforts that take existing community assets and reimagine them to meet the needs of our residents. 🏠🤝

There’s still work to be done, but it was great to see this project coming to life.

Esta semana me uní a otros miembros de las juntas directivas y al personal de SGVCOG y SGVRHT para una jornada de voluntariado en Pomona, ayudando a transformar una antigua iglesia en un nuevo centro de vivienda de transición y desarrollo laboral.

Nos pusimos manos a la obra para pintar y preparar el espacio de cara a su apertura a finales de este año. Más que renovar un edificio, este proyecto busca crear viviendas, servicios de apoyo y oportunidades de desarrollo económico para los residentes del Valle de San Gabriel.

Me enorgullece formar parte de los esfuerzos regionales que aprovechan los recursos comunitarios existentes y los reinventan para responder a las necesidades de nuestros residentes. 🏠🤝

Aún queda trabajo por hacer, pero fue muy gratificante ver cómo este proyecto empieza a hacerse realidad.

I am humbled, honored, and incredibly grateful to have been selected as this year’s Outstanding Elected Official.

The work and the mission have always come from a place of love for my community and a passion for building a healthier, more equitable San Gabriel Valley. I’m grateful for the organizations, staff, colleagues, and community members who have worked alongside me and helped turn that vision into meaningful results for our communities.

I look forward to celebrating alongside so many incredible people who continue to make the San Gabriel Valley a better place.

El trabajo y la misión siempre han nacido del amor por mi comunidad y de la pasión por construir un San Gabriel Valley más saludable y equitativo. Estoy especialmente agradecido con las organizaciones, el personal, colegas y miembros de nuestra comunidad que han trabajado a mi lado y que han ayudado a convertir esa visión en resultados significativos para nuestras comunidades.

Espero con mucho entusiasmo celebrar junto a tantas personas increíbles que continúan trabajando para hacer del Valle de San Gabriel un lugar mejor.

Grateful to hear Senator Susan Rubio share her story with our community and the experiences that continue to motivate her to do this work. I’m especially thankful for her proactive leadership and her initiative on SB 1323.

I’m also grateful to Baldwin Park Methodist Church for always being engaged in our community and for opening its doors to host important conversations and events like these. And thank you to LA VOICE for continually showing up, informing, and advocating for our community.

These partnerships and conversations are what help strengthen our community and keep us moving forward together.

🇲🇽 Congratulations to María Moreno on being recognized by the Consulado General de México as Orgullo Mexicano del Mes!

I’ve had the privilege of working alongside María for the past six years, and I’ve seen firsthand her dedication, humility, and commitment to serving the Baldwin Park community.

For more than three decades, María has worked behind the scenes to make a difference in the lives of thousands of families. From supporting our community during the pandemic, to food and toy distributions, services for families experiencing homelessness, partnerships with the Mexican Consulate, and most recently, emergency assistance for families impacted by immigration raids, María has always been there when our community needed her.

Her work is a reminder that behind every program, service, and accomplishment in our city are dedicated public servants who make it all possible. People like María may not always be in the spotlight, but their work has a lasting impact.

Her story reminds us that immigrants don’t just pursue the dream of a better life; they also strengthen, enrich, and transform the communities that have the privilege of welcoming them.

Thank you to the Consulado General de México for recognizing María and celebrating the countless Mexicanas y Mexicanos de a pie who quietly make our communities stronger.

Today, we joined Kaiser Permanente in recognizing an exciting milestone: the expansion of the Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center.

The addition of 50 new emergency beds is a significant investment in the health and safety of families throughout Baldwin Park, the San Gabriel Valley, and our neighboring communities. This project will help provide faster access to lifesaving care, reduce wait times, and better meet the growing healthcare needs of our region.

What a great morning at Baldwin Park’s Pride of the Valley 5K! 🏃‍♂️💙

I’m excited to share I broke my own 5K personal record this year!

Yesterday’s Street Market at the Park was a boot-scootin’ good time! I brought out the boots and buckle and had a great evening enjoying live music by Ezequiel Junior

A special thank you to our very own Baldwin Park resident, Mia Cervantes for opening the event with everyone’s favorite mariachi songs. It was a great way to kick off the night and showcase the incredible talent we have right here in our community.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our local vendors, enjoy the music, and spend the evening together.
