DAMAGE ASSESSMENTS ARE UNDERWAY IN LAKE COUNTY TODAY.

Teams from Lake County Emergency Management, Michigan State Police / Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (EMHSD), FEMA, and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) are in the area conducting preliminary damage assessments related to recent flooding.

This information is used to determine whether Michigan qualifies for a federal disaster declaration and FEMA Individual Assistance for impacted residents.

If you have experienced flood damage, you may also want to know that the SBA is not just for businesses. SBA disaster loans are available to homeowners and renters as well, offering low-interest options to help cover flood-related losses.

If You Fly, We Can't/No Drones In Fire Zones

Federal, state, and local wildland fire management agencies and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) urge members of the public not to fly “Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)” or drones over or near prescribed fires and wildfires. Unauthorized drone flights pose serious risks to firefighter and public safety and the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations.

The HMNFs will burn the following unit(s) on the following Ranger Districts:

Baldwin/White Cloud RD

Yates Twp., Lake County
Idlewild Fuels 5 (113 Acres). South of 76th and East of S. Foreman. Idlewild Fuels 7 (197 Acres). South of 72nd and West of S. Broadway.

Firefighters will monitor the burn area for days following the burn.
