A meeting was held with Baldwin, Chitimacha, Franklin, Patterson, Jeanerette, Berwick, and Morgan City Police Departments along with the St Mary Parish Sheriff's Dept. and Mayor Clarence Vappie. Special guest, District Attorney Michael Haik, was in attendance to answer questions from the area agencies. Discussion was held concerning improving communication between respective agencies and the District Attorneys Office. All was in agreement that a safer community is imperative.

A Message From Chief A. Gibson

During the 2026 Louisiana Association of Secretaries to Chiefs of Police Conference in Monroe, Louisiana, we proudly celebrate a very special honor for our own Baldwin Police Department Administrator, Denise Champagne.

Denise was inducted as an Honorary Lifetime Member of LASCP—an achievement that reflects her years of dedication, leadership, and service to the association and the law enforcement community. A longtime member, she also served as LASCP President in 2013, leaving a lasting impact through her commitment and guidance.

Throughout her career, Denise has consistently worked to uplift and educate fellow administrators, always encouraging others to grow and succeed. Her passion for law enforcement and strong work ethic shine through in everything she does.

The Baldwin Police Department is incredibly proud and extends our heartfelt congratulations to Denise on this well-deserved recognition! 🎉

Chief Anthony Gibson with the Baldwin Police Department announced the following drug-related arrest:

On April 22, 2026, officers approached several individuals standing near the rear of a residence on Branch St, near the Branch St. Park. One of the individuals was known to have an outstanding warrant. After illegal narcotics were detected, a K9 unit from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office was requested to conduct an open-air sniff of a nearby vehicle. The K9 alerted on the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approx. 5.6 lbs of ma*****na, approx. 1.4 lbs of Methamphetamine, approx. 56 grams of Synthetic Ma*****na, approx 25 M**A Pills, approx 6 grams of Crack Co***ne, THC Vapes, Promethazine, and a loaded firearm.

Antoine F. Jones, also known as “Midget,” was arrested and charged with the following:

Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substances (Drug-Free Zone)
Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of CDS
Possession of Co***ne with Intent to Distribute
Possession of Ma*****na with Intent to Distribute
Possession of Schedule I Drugs with Intent to Distribute (multiple counts)
Possession of Synthetic Cannabinoids with Intent to Distribute
Possession of Methamphetamines with Intent to Distribute
Possession of a Legend Drug without a Prescription
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Jones was transported to the St. Mary Law Enforcement Center, where bond was set at $1,002,500.00.

Chief Anthony Gibson of the Baldwin Police Department recently hosted a luncheon, bringing together Chiefs of Police and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.
With each agency at the table, meaningful discussions took place as concerns were shared and ideas exchanged. The goal is simple: strengthen each department and continue improving the service provided to our communities.
Together, collaboration leads to better outcomes for the citizens we serve.
