It was “Christmas in July” aloha-style, as we celebrated our volunteers at our 11th Annual Volunteer Recognition Event at Tassone’s Wine Garden. This event is our special way of saying thank you to our dedicated volunteers who bring happiness, comfort, and friendship to our residents’ lives every day. We couldn’t do it without you! We would also like to thank Joe Trionfero for his hilarious comedy show, and our staff for generously donating the raffle baskets, and organizing this spectacular event!

Congratulations to Alana Woods for receiving her LPN pin at the Cayuga Onondaga BOCES LPN program’s award ceremony. For the past seven years, Alana has worked at Syracuse Home as a CNA on the short-term rehabilitation unit. She was recently awarded tuition assistance by the McHarrie Life Foundation to complete her LPN diploma. Generous donations to our nursing education program enable our Foundation to support continuing education for our nurses. Thank you to our wonderful donors who helped Alana achieve her dream!

We served delicious gourmet burgers and refreshing brews for our resident fathers and their guests in celebration of Father’s Day! Our Chef Paul Murray and Activities Director Teri Tarolli planned this first-ever special event, and it was a hit! Thank you to our staff and volunteer team for helping make “Burgers and Brews” a much- anticipated and loved celebration.

Congratulations to Our High School Graduates! ✨🎓

Today, we proudly celebrate the incredible high school graduates who are part of our Dietary Department at Syracuse Home. (Left, Collin Bevans, Triston Miller, Fox Sky, Nevaeh Fields. Not pictured Gianna Hodkinson).

Balancing school, work, and personal commitments is no small accomplishment, and these young team members have demonstrated dedication, perseverance, and a strong work ethic every step of the way. We are honored to have watched them grow and contribute to our community while reaching this important milestone.

Please join us in congratulating our graduates on their achievements and wishing them continued success as they begin their next chapter. Your Syracuse Home family is proud of you and excited to see all that the future holds!

Congratulations to Rylie Rachwal, a 2026 C.W. Baker High School graduate who received our annual Syracuse Home Foundation Patricia Hoalcraft Memorial scholarship. Rylie will attend John Carroll University in the fall to pursue her degree in nursing. She will also continue her athletic career in field hockey. The scholarship was established in 2004 after the passing of beloved Syracuse Home Dietary Director Patricia Hoalcraft. It commemorates Pat’s dedication to Syracuse Home and is awarded annually at Baker High School to a graduating senior pursuing a degree in healthcare. Best wishes to you, Rylie!

Back by popular demand!

Henry and Hilda, our friendly “deskunked” skunks from Charles N. Gordon Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, visited our McHarrie Pointe residents.

Chris Welshans, an LPN nurse at McHarrie Life, is a volunteer at the rehabilitation center. She organized this second visit after our skunk friends’ successful debut at our nursing home last month.

Most of our residents had never seen a skunk up close, and their presence generated many questions and lots of excitement!

Charles N. Gordon Wildlife Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of orphaned and injured raccoons and other animals in need. Currently, the center cares for 30 baby raccoons and three baby skunks.

Thank you, Chris, and activities director, Kenny Nash, for organizing this memorable event!

Art is the language of the soul, and McHarrie Pointe Activities Director Kenny Nash embraces the opportunity to host art classes that encourage our residents to use their creativity to paint personalized masterpieces! Instead of a paintbrush, our residents used a plastic straw cut into a flower shape. This unique tool challenged their minds, encouraged conversation, and resulted in amazingly beautiful artwork!
