Did you know that a later resident of Greenfield in Saratoga County assisted as an early “Red Cross” style volunteer in the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Bennington on August 16, 1777? Anna Gould Deake was born in Rhode Island and by 1777 lived near Bennington. After the battles she searched for her husband, Charles, who was wounded but survived, and continued to provide assistance to other survivors of the battle. She and her family later moved to Greenfield where she died in 1828 at the age of 87. Many of her descendants still live in the area, including the Dake family who run Stewart’s Shops throughout the northeast.

🧵 Stop by the library's New & Popular area TOMORROW (3/20) from 2-3 p.m. to watch the sewing and construction process of "Remaking the Baronness." Learn about the project, ask historical clothing questions, or just sit back and observe. No registration required.

✂️ Inspired by the upcoming Saratoga 250 anniversary, Librarian Caitlin sets out to bring history to life with a sewing project. Taking a cue from the Saratoga 250 augmented reality banner of Baroness von Riedesel that you may have seen in the library and around town, Caitlin will be making the Baroness' dress in a series of public sewing demonstrations to show the detail and craftsmanship that went into clothing during the revolutionary period.
