Kick off the 2026-27 School Year with the CTE TAC’s Sizzlin’ Summer Professional Development Series! Each lunch-and-learn session will take place from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, packed with practical strategies to start your year strong!

👩‍🏫On August 31st, Sherry St. Clair will discuss classroom management tips and strategies to use during the first few days of school to help start the year off on the right foot.

🧠From September 1st to September 3rd, Sarah Hugger will present a 3-part series walking teachers through a 6-step framework to help students think critically in the age of artificial intelligence.

Whether you're polishing your classroom routines or leveling up how your students tackle real-world challenges, this series has something for everyone!

From interpreting technical information and safety guidelines to communicating with clients, processing spoken instructions, documenting work, and collaborating with coworkers, literacy skills are essential in virtually every CTE subject area and career pathway. In this hands-on workshop, you'll apply a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework to recognize the often-hidden literacy demands of CTE-specific tasks and propose ways to make those demands more accessible, explicit, and manageable for diverse learners.

Through a guided design-thinking exercise, you will examine the literacy skills embedded within a task or activity in your own CTE course. Using UDL as a lens, you will distinguish between meaningful literacy-related challenges that promote authentic learning and avoidable sources of unnecessary friction that create barriers for students. You will then consider how UDL principles can promote flexibility, clarity, and multiple pathways for participation to improve access and engagement without reducing rigor.

The UDL-informed mindset you'll develop in this workshop will enable you to identify and navigate barriers to learning in any activity — literacy-related or not! — in any CTE course or learning context.

📢Attention NY CTE leaders! The ACTE National Leadership Fellowship Program is accepting applications through September 15, 2026.

This program serves as an instrument to provide professional growth, policy knowledge and leadership development to early and expreinced CTE professionals. It runs from January to December. Fellows will receive a $1,500 stipend, along with complimentary registration for ACTE’s CareerTech VISION and National Policy Seminar (NPS).
