Troop 1 Ballston Spa 100th year Alumni

Troop 1 Ballston Spa 100th year Alumni As Troop 1 celebrates it's 100th year, we are looking for former scouts, leaders and families of Troop 1, Ballston Spa, NY.

In 1913, members of Ballston Spa United Methodist Church signed a charter with Boy Scouts of America, to sponsor Troop 1. BSUMC has continue to sponsor the troop for all 100 years. As Troop 1 celebrates it's 100th year, we are looking for former members, leaders and families of Troop 1, Ballston Spa, NY. Saturday, March 16th, Troop 1 will be hosting a 100 year Celebration, Re-charter and Court of

Honor. We are putting together a program booklet for the evening and we are selling advertisement to cover the cost of the dinner for the current scouts. There will be an Alumni page of former scouts and families who contribute to the troop. For $25, you will given a one line listing, your name and years in scouting. You will receive a copy of the program booklet and Troop1's 100th year pocket patch. You can send your donation and information to Troop 1 c/o BSUMC, 101 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa, NY 12020. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Charles Fowler has made contact with us and he is in the 50th photo. He moved away when GE transferred his father. He had a great comment: " You can take the boy out of the troop, but you can not take the troop out of the boy!" All of us, no matter our length of time with the troop had our lives impacted by our experiences and leaders. James Moulton, Eagle Scout, 1974; made a major contribution toward a 8'x10' trailer for transporting the camping gears. He felt that the principles and character he learned in scouting, molded him into the man he is today. I hope Charlie and Jim are not offend my mentioning them without their approval but the troop is honored by their stories. This page is a place each of us can post our stories and experiences with Troop 1. Also, here is where we can honor the scoutmasters and other scout leaders, who gave so much to develop into the men that we have become. Please forward this page to any one you know who grew up in Ballston Spa, during the last 100 years. We are looking to find 100 former scouts, scout leaders, scout families and their stories. We have probably had hundreds boys join Troop 1 over the 106 years. We had as many as 63 scouts and as low as 7 and currently have 33 scouts.
On February 5, 2018, we lost our oldest living scout, Kenneth R. Sharadin, Jr. 82. He had two sons in scouts Mark and Mike. Kenneth was at the 100 year Celebration of Troop 1.
We had a photo taken with the new scouts of Troop 1 crossing over from Cub Scouts Pack 1. The oldest scout and the newest scouts.

Just wanted to let Troop 1 Alumni know that on December 13, 2018 we lost a former Scoutmaster Lee Van Arsdale. He was scoutmaster from 1994 to 1997. He had two sons in the troop Brian(Eagle Scout) and Eric. Lee and his wife Kris have their grandson in the troop now. Kyle is Brian's son. Scoutmasters great incredible memories for the scouts and give countless hours and compassion to each scout he leaders. So say a prayer for Lee's family and all the scoutmasters who are truly servant leaders.

Would like your help in sending a young scout to camp this summer. If you ever remember attending summer camp you know just one week at camp creates life long memories! Camp build a level of confidence that is a building block for the rest of your life.
If you can find it in your heart to contribute it would be greatly appreciated.

Do you remember going to Summer camp as a scout? Many say summer camp was one of the most exciting memory of their scouting experience. A week with your new friends, away from your parents, new activities, swimming, boating, fishing, shooting and archery, songs, cheers, skits and plenty of "delicious" food in the mess hall! Sorry I got carried away on the food. Life long memories recreated while shaping your character as a young man.
The troop has a scout who needs financial help to go to camp for the first time. He is the great grandson of a former scout. Most of you would know the name but will protect the privacy of the family.
The cost of summer is $450 for the week. What I prospose to you, if anybody feels so moved, if 18 former scouts and family would contribute $25 that would cover the camp fee.
You can spend the contribution to Troop 1 Ballston Spa, C/O Ballston Spa UMC, 101 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa, NY 12020. Any overage will go toward purchasing a scout uniform and hiking shoe.
Thank you for your consideration on helping a scout experience summer camp.

A Scout is Reverent!

The Scout Law says that a "Scout is Reverent" and the Scouts of all ages promise to do their "Duty to God". These values strengthen youth character in their family, community and faith. The Ballston Spa United Methodist Church hosted Troop 1 and Pack 1 for Scouting Sunday. The Scouts planned and delivered the entire Sunday service for the congregation. Eagle Scout Josh VanPatten and Eagle Scout Candidate Karl Burket delivered the morning messages to the congregation. The Ballston Spa United Methodist Church has continually sponsored Troop 1 for 106 years.
