At approximately 10:30 AM today, the Ballston Spa Fire Department was activated on the box alarm with the Rock City Falls Fire Department for multiple reports of a plane crash near the Saratoga County Airport in Milton. At the same time, our department was also dispatched to an indoor gas odor within our primary district.
Crews from Eagle-Matt Lee Fire Co. #1 and Union Fire Company #2 promptly responded to both incidents. While en route to the reported plane crash, a second alarm was transmitted, bringing an additional request for an Engine from Ballston Spa along with other mutual aid resources.
The gas odor incident was quickly investigated and resolved without further issue, allowing our crews to respond to assist at the plane crash scene. Ballston Spa and Rock City Falls firefighters worked together to extinguish the fire and mitigate hazards. During this time, members remained in service to backfill our stations and handled one additional call within the district.
We extend our appreciation to the Malta Ridge Volunteer Fire Company and Round Lake, NY Fire Department for providing district coverage. Also on scene were Community Emergency Corps, Saratoga County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police & Park Police, Saratoga County Office of Emergency Management, and other mutual aid partners on stand-by.
A special thank-you to the Sheriffβs Office Communications Division for their outstanding organization, coordination, and professionalism throughout the incident.
All questions or inquiries regarding this incident and the ongoing investigation should be directed to the Saratoga County Sheriffβs Office, NTSB, or FAA.
