Governor Evers approves WIS 46 resurfacing project in Polk County
Portion of construction to be completed detouring highway via US 8 and WIS 35
To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed $8.49 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Paving Co. of Amery for a resurfacing project on WIS 46 from US 8 in the town of Balsam Lake to WIS 35 in the town of Milltown, all in Polk County. Construction is scheduled to start Wednesday, April 15.
The pavement on this segment of WIS 46 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing:
• Recycling 4 inches of pavement in place on the rural portion of the project, placing 2.75 inches of new asphalt and installing centerline rumble strips
• Milling 3.25 inches of pavement in the village of Balsam Lake and placing 3.25 inches of new asphalt
• Cleaning, extending, lining or replacing culverts
• Replacing or adjusting existing guardrail
• Replacing curb ramps in the village of Balsam Lake
During construction, WIS 46 will remain open to traffic throughout most of construction, but motorists can expect the following impacts:
• Single-lane closures controlled by flagging operations during normal construction hours.
• In the village of Balsam Lake:
o Parking will be limited at times during active construction in the parking lanes.
o Accommodations will be made for pedestrians when curb ramp replacements are occurring.
During construction near Lykens Lake, WIS 46 will be closed from approximately June 8 through July 8, and traffic will be detoured via US 8 and WIS 35.
Construction is scheduled for completion in early October.
