Welcome to the OFFICIAL page of the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, better known as MDOT SHA. This account is monitored Monday - Friday from 8am - 4:30pm and during emergencies. Not only do we want you to experience the roads that allow you to enjoy our State’s natural beauty, but we want to introduce you to the organization that creates them. We believe that building a successful organization is no different than building roads or bridges: it all starts with a solid foundation. Instead of standard construction materials, we rely on our values and our people -- SHA's most important assets. Through this Facebook account we will introduce you to our organization and discuss our commitment to serving the citizens of Maryland through public participation as well as customer service. We are proud of our tradition of excellence. Since its inception as the State Roads Commission in 1908, SHA has continued to build on its foundation of quality and integrity. We are happy to share our vision, our beliefs and our values with you. This is the official Facebook account of MDOT SHA and only posts directly from this account reflect agency statements. Individuals who identify themselves as employees do not speak for the agency and any comments or posts on social media are the individuals' and are not associated with MDOT SHA. Wall Posts

We will host a public open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, at the Allegany Museum, 3 Pershing St., Cumberland, to share information and receive feedback on the ongoing study along I-68 (National Freeway) Cumberland Viaduct from US 220 (McMullen Highway) to MD 639 (Willowbrook Road) in Allegany County.

The study seeks to identify opportunities to improve safety, access and connectivity for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists. Known as a Planning and Environmental Linkages Study (PEL), the effort considers environmental, community and economic goals early in the planning stage. Learn more here - https://ow.ly/4ZNf50ZXE5N

Well… that was udderly unexpected.

Yesterday morning’s commute on I-695 featured a very determined cow living its best life and reminding everyone to Mooove Over in work zones—literally.

Drive safe out there—and if you see any more livestock on the loose, please… don’t have a cow.

TBT – The squeaky wheel gets the oil!

Today we’re rolling back to 1932 for a look at how road crews kept their equipment in shape. These early innovators paved the way—literally—for the modern, less labor intensive machinery we rely on today.

🎉 Today, we celebrated a major milestone in pedestrian, bicycle and roadway safety along MD 650 (New Hampshire Avenue)!

Joined by officials from Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, we marked the completion of Maryland’s first Pedestrian Safety Action Plan (PSAP) corridor in Prince George’s County and shared updates on ongoing improvements in Montgomery County.

🚶‍♀️🚲 From new crosswalks and signals to upgraded sidewalks, pedestrian ramps and bus stops, these improvements reflect the Moore-Miller Administration’s continued support of SHA's Complete Streets initiative and our goal of completing its first PSAP project by the end of 2026—making travel safer and more accessible for everyone!

Every day is MOVE OVER Day. Please slow down and move over to protect work crews and fellow drivers.

Look at the US 340 ramp improvement project in Frederick County. The good news - we’re nearly 50% complete, and the concrete barrier at northbound US 15 should come down this fall.

The bad news - speeds are way too high. From January through August, the automated speed enforcement devices in the 55mph work zone issued 25,820 citations, including dozens for speeds over 90 mph.

We can’t say it loud enough: SLOW THE FAST DOWN.
