Update for the week:

1 - Tower’s fire escape counter weight cut off and removed and permanently mounted w/ fab’ed anchor plates

2 - Storefront prop enclosure welded to hold smoke when instructing about roll down gates

3 - 1/4” steel plate fab’ed for hose testing cart w/ fork pockets

BCFD Saw Blades:

Each blade is meant for a specific application and a for a specific type of material.

Pic 1 - 4.5” Graff on Grinder (coming soon) - meant to cut plywood and clear board on all floors - beneficial for 2nd/3rd story coverings.

Pic 2 - 4.5”/5.5” Lenox on Grinder - meant to cut light metal chain, locks, etc. in front but mainly rear

Provides reps for officers and BC’s to run through a variety of types of simulations that could take place in our city.

Our training culture has shifted to ensure that all ranks are provided with continuous education and training opportunities throughout our careers.

The world demands expertise in any and all professions.

The twilight zone that is the fire service should be no different. Initial fire training courses required for state certification only builds in 3-6 hours for fire behavior/fire dynamics. This equates to a mere 1.02% of initial training.

As a comparison, dentists do not go into practice after performing 1 filling. They mess up dozens upon dozens of people’s mouths in training and have hundreds of hours of eduction before becoming an expert in their field.

Maybe it’s time to rethink priorities and go back to what’s important to be successful in our craft.

The fire service’s expertise comes from fire dynamics and extinguishment - that’s the focus or should be.
