As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, we also honor the full history of all the communities that call Baltimore County home. The freedoms we celebrate today were hard-fought and built on the resilience, sacrifice, and determination of those who came before us.

From the waves and smiles to the conversations along the parade route, I was happy to celebrate the Fourth with our Towson community. Thank you to everyone who came out, cheered us on, and made the day so special. ❤️

My reflections while watching the fireworks tonight: I celebrate my freedom, my independence, and my place in this country - not because our history is perfect, but because generations before us fought to make its promises real.

This nation was built on the backs of my ancestors and countless others whose blood, sweat, and tears shaped America: enslaved Black people, immigrant laborers who laid the railroads, mined the coal, forged the steel, picked the cotton, fought in our wars, and too often lost their lives to violence and injustice.

Their sacrifices are woven into the fabric of this nation. Today, I honor them. I claim this country because they helped build it. I celebrate not only how far we’ve come, but our responsibility to continue the work of creating a nation where liberty, justice, and opportunity truly belong to everyone.

Happy Independence Day. May we continue striving to fulfill the promise of America: for ALL.

It was such an honor to join the Historic East Towson community for its Inaugural Juneteenth Parade and Cookout.

This celebration highlighted the strength, resilience, and rich history of Baltimore County’s oldest African American community. Founded by formerly enslaved people from the Hampton Estate, East Towson stands as a powerful testament to generations of perseverance, self-determination, and community building.

It is the first neighborhood where African Americans could own land in Baltimore County. Please learn more about this important history at historiceasttowson.org.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, we are reminded that preserving historic Black communities like East Towson means preserving the stories, land, and legacies that have shaped Baltimore County for nearly two centuries. Thank you to the residents and organizers who made this memorable day possible. 🖤

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is not just a moment in history, it is a promise we must continue to fulfill.

Today, we honor those who fought for liberation, celebrate the progress we’ve made, and recommit ourselves to building a more just future for all.

Happy Juneteenth!

Happy Pride! 🌈

I celebrate the courage, resilience, and contributions of LGBTQ+ communities across Baltimore and Maryland.

This Pride Month, I want to be especially clear: transgender Marylanders belong here and deserve to be celebrated and fully incorporated with LGBTQ+ pride events. Trans and nonbinary people deserve to live safely, openly, and authentically, free from discrimination, fear, and political attacks. At a time when trans people are being targeted across the country, we must stand together in solidarity and affirm the dignity and humanity of every person.

As a proud member of the Maryland Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus, I remain committed to advancing equality and protecting the rights of all LGBTQ+ Marylanders. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Wishing everyone a joyful, affirming, and love-filled Pride Month. ❤️
