President Trump’s threat to deploy the National Guard to Baltimore, without the Governor’s consent, is unconstitutional and dangerous.

Maryland law is clear: only our Governor can command the Maryland National Guard, and only Baltimore’s elected leaders control our police department. This federal overreach is not about public safety – it’s about consolidating power. We stand united in defending our state’s sovereignty, our democracy, and the dignity of the people.

President Trump has announced his intent to deploy the National Guard to cities across the country – including Baltimore – and take control of local police without the consent of state leaders.

This is unconstitutional, unlawful, and a direct assault on Maryland’s sovereignty and the rights of Baltimoreans to be served by leaders they elected. The law is clear: only our Governor has the authority to command the Maryland National Guard, and that authority exists to protect our communities from exactly this kind of federal overreach.

Baltimore will not be exploited as a pawn in the politics of fear and division. We will stand united – in the streets, in the courts, and in the halls of government – to defend our democracy and our dignity.
