What an awesome drill weekend!

We had a great time celebrating the promotions of 1st Lt. Robert Kapp and 1st Lt. Michael Fedner to the rank of captain, and also Sgt. Lauren Melendez to the rank of staff sergeant.

They bring nothing but 'awesomeness' to the MPAD and we appreciate the leadership they demonstrate to Soldiers and the special skills they provide to the Maryland National Guard.

What makes a good public affairs noncommissioned officer?

Not only did Staff Sgt. Michael Davis and Staff Sgt. Paul Porter complete their advance leadership course, they were in charge of making their class video that was shown at graduation. During May’s drill both Davis and Porter were recognized for their public affairs professionalism by coming in 2nd place in the National Guard Bureau Media Contest.

Unsurprisingly, she excelled in her Advanced Leadership Course at the Cyber Center of Excellence NCO Academy Detachment - Fort Meade by earning the Distinguished Leader Award.

Best piece of advice from Cpl. Liz Scott for the 29th MPAD? Jump in there!

Recently on a trip supporting Maryland’s State Partnership Program with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Scott jumped in to instruct a training at the Joint Information Center and got really up close during a demonstration of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear capabilities.

Her work was a part of Maryland’s larger support to the country in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, March 20.

Ever heard the phrase that goes "Great leaders are remembered by the stories about them"? Well, it is definitely true about Maj. Cody Starken. During the 29th MPAD's change of command ceremony on Feb. 9, 2019, at the Fifth Regiment Armory in Baltimore, the unit solidified Starken's legacy. That legacy ranges from his ability to be transparent during potential and real mobilizations, to his ability to include new ideas into unit planning and operations. While the unit said goodbye to Starken, who has been in command since 2017, the soldiers welcomed Capt. Brendan Cassidy as the new commander of the 29th MPAD.
