A piece of American history lives right here in Baltimore.

DGS Facilities oversees the maintenance of the historic Flag House, while DGS Capital Projects works in partnership with the long-term tenant, the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House Association, to help preserve this important landmark for future generations.

One of the bedrooms inside the Flag House is where portions of the Star-Spangled Banner were crafted. The site also honors the women whose skill and dedication contributed to the creation of the flag that would become a symbol of our nation.

The museum will be open to visitors this Sunday for flag day and will feature a brand-new pop-up exhibit. Stop by and experience the stories, craftsmanship, and legacy behind the Star-Spangled Banner.

The FY27 Budget Hearing was an opportunity to highlight how DGS supports the essential services that keep Baltimore City running every day — from workforce development opportunities and the stone restoration at City Hall.

Thank you to everyone who played a role in preparing for and participating in this important process at City Hall.

By switching to LED lighting in seven parking garages, the City of Baltimore has already saved $65,000 in energy costs in the past two years, thanks to a grant from the Maryland Energy Administration. The collaboration between the Parking Authority of Baltimore City and Baltimore City's Department of General Services includes planned upgrades at three additional parking garages in 2026, ensuring even greater savings this year and for years to come.

Behind every Budget Hearing is a whole lot of preparation.

For the past few weeks, DGS has been hard at work preparing for our FY27 Budget Hearing by reviewing documents, refining presentations, and making sure the story of DGS is clear, transparent, and data-driven.

Today, staff donned their City Council caps for a mock hearing, asking tough questions and providing valuable feedback to help DGS leadership prepare for the Big Show.

Tune in tomorrow, May 28 at 2:30pm on CharmTV to watch the DGS FY27 Budget Hearing and learn how our proposed budget supports the essential services that keep Baltimore City running.
