Whether you're learning to sew, trying 3D printing, experimenting with laser cutting, or working on your own project during Open Build hours, our free workshops are designed for adult learners of all experience levels. Beginners are encouraged to attend. Classes are taught by Open Works.

🧵 Sewing Essentials Training
• Sept. 1 | 5:30 to 8 p.m.
• Sept. 23 | 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Learn sewing machine basics while creating a simple project to take home.

🪡 Mending Basics
• Sept. 9 | 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Learn how to patch holes, sew on buttons, fix seams, and make simple garment repairs.

🪵 Glowforge: Coaster & Keepsake Box (4-part series)
• Fridays, Sept. 4 through Sept. 25 | 1 to 4 p.m.
Learn laser cutting and engraving while creating a custom coaster and keepsake box.

🖨️ 3D Printing: Make Your Own Trinket Tray
• Sept. 15 | 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Learn the basics of 3D printing while designing and creating a personalized trinket tray.

🔨 Open Build Studio Hours (Completion of at least one CEC Maker training required)
• Sept. 3 | 1 to 5 p.m.
• Sept. 10 | 4 to 8 p.m.
• Sept. 17 | 1 to 5 p.m.
• Sept. 24 | 4 to 8 p.m.
Bring your own project and use Makerspace equipment with support from an Open Works expert.

Wear your best costume and enjoy stations of treats, crafts, games, and more.

Our new operating hours begin today!

The CEC has new operating hours! Starting next week, August 10, we will be open to the community during these times*:

🕛 Monday–Thursday: 12 to 8 p.m.
🕛 Friday: 12 to 5 p.m.

*Special hours will continue for tax season, early voting and other unique events.

As we shared in last month's newsletter, these changes are part of budget reductions affecting the entire University this year, and are not a reflection of how important our community is to us. While our hours are changing, our commitment to YOU is not.

Tomorrow is National Night Out! Join University of Maryland, Baltimore Police & Public Safety and neighbors for an evening of free food, fun, and more!

This event takes place in the parking lot directly across from the CEC (873 W. Baltimore St.) from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4.
