Picnic, party, and sunshine!

Last week, our Developmental Disabilities Program celebrated Memorial Day with our colleagues from Melwood at Patapsco Valley State Park!

We spent the day in scenic nature, connecting with each other over picnic treats and lively music beats.

A big thank you to our Meaningful Day Program team for organizing such a wonderful event!

Honoring those who gave their lives in service. We remember you this Memorial Day.

This , we're proud to celebrate Katie!

Katie has always been passionate about linguistics and languages.

“I’ve always loved languages. I like picking up languages. When I find someone new and find out they speak a new language, I try to talk to them,” Katie said.

Now, as a short-term participant in Humanim's Evidence-Based Supported Employment program, she is taking steps to turn that passion into a career.

Happy Accessibility Awareness Day! According to the Global Accessibility Awareness Day Foundation, more than one billion people worldwide live with a disability. Yet far too often, this population is left behind in physical and digital spaces, limiting opportunities for connection and full participation in society.

At Humanim, our mission is rooted in creating pathways to economic equity and independence for individuals with disabilities. Accessibility is a fundamental aspect of that vision, and we take pride in ensuring that every participant can thrive and connect in our programs without barriers or concern about whether the space is designed to meet their needs.

Join us in advancing our mission while improving accessibility for everyone. humanim.org/donate

It’s prom season at Humanim, and the Meaningful Day Program in Columbia celebrated with their own event, creating a space for personal expression and incredible memories.

With the theme “Black Tie Affair,” attendees arrived dressed in suits, gowns, and outfits that radiated confidence. The event planning team upheld prom traditions, with each participant receiving a hand-made corsage or boutonniere.

The care behind the celebration extended to every detail.

During , we are proud to highlight the stories of individuals who are not only navigating their own recovery but also lifting up those around them. For Jack, the path to stability was a long journey through 13 surgeries, a traumatic brain injury, and years of navigating the complex cycle of bipolar disorder.

Today, as a participant in Humanim’s Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) and Residential Rehabilitation Program, Jack has transformed his recovery into a mission of service. He has become a natural mentor within the therapeutic community, using his own experiences to guide others.

“I have to help the next guy because I got helped,” Jack said. “I take that very seriously. If I can give even one inch of what I’ve been given, I will do that all day. Without that component of giving back, I don’t think I could be me.”

Humanim’s Youth Transition Services and Developmental Disabilities teams hosted booths at the City Public Schools Transition Expo at the War Memorial Building. We had the opportunity to connect with many students and families, sharing information about resources and services that support the transition from high school to the workforce.

Thank you to Baltimore City Public Schools for hosting a meaningful event that connects students and families with valuable opportunities for the future.

Mental health matters.

This Awareness Month, Humanim is highlighting how mental health touches every person and community. Our Behavioral Health services support individuals in understanding that their mental health experiences are just a small fragment of who they are. Every moment, including the difficult ones, plays a role in healing and moving forward.

Inspired by this year’s theme, “More Good Days Together,” we are celebrating individuals who are taking meaningful steps to access support and shape brighter paths. By listening and strengthening connections, we can help create more days filled with growth and possibility.
