The Children's Book Festival is a FREE event for youth at the museum on Saturday, April 11th|11 am - 3 pm. We ask if you could forward this information to your educators and networks that would be interested in attending this literary event for families, children and educators.
Children’s Book Festival | Reginald F. Lewis Museum
The event is listed free for youth. We have about 22 authors participating including Civil Rights icon, Joan Trumpauer Mulholland who was a freedom fighter. We have several participating authors who have won literary awards such as the Coretta Scott King Award, Newbery Award and the Caldecott Literary Award. Those include Bryan Collier, Carole Boston Weatherford, Kwame Alexander, Renee Watson, James Ransome and Shadra Strickland.
Activities will include mental health well being with Kindness Stations with Dr. Shields, a Dance Party with Culture Queen, author readings, illustrator workshop with James E. Ransome and other artmaking activities. We will be giving out a free copy of A Ride To Remember, a civil rights story about the integration of Gwynn Oak Amusement Park read by author Amy Nathan.
Families will also get a chance to see our current exhibtitons as well as our permanent exhibition while attending this literacy event.
