If you have Original Medicare, you will not have to make changes to your Original Medicare when moving out of state or within your own state. Original Medicare does not have provider networks, so you can visit any doctor or facility in the country that accepts Medicare. Although you do not need to make changes to your Original Medicare coverage, you should still contact Social Security to update your information to ensure that you receive important communications.

Medicare Advantage Plans and Part D plans, on the other hand, have coverage areas, so you may need to switch plans if you are moving outside of the area served by your current plan. You will have a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) if you move out of your Medicare Advantage Plan’s or Part D plan’s service area or if you move to an area covered by your plan but more plans are available to you in your new coverage area. Note that if you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, you can use this SEP to switch from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another or to return to Original Medicare and select a stand-alone Part D plan.

Whether you have Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage, you should contact the Social Security Administration to update your information and ensure that you receive important communications. You can visit https://www.ssa.gov/myaccount/change-of-address.html or call 800-772-1213 to update your permanent address.
Contact your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) in your area to learn about cost assistance programs and Medigaps in the state to which you are moving.

There have been plenty of changes in 2020. Including a delayed due date of May 17. Make sure you get all your information and understand your deductions.
Check out Form 1040-SR, "U.S. Tax Return for Seniors." The special tax return for those 65 and older includes a simple-to-use standard deduction chart at the bottom of the form that shows the amount of the bigger standard deduction based on your filing status and how many boxes you check for age and blindness. The form is also easier to read thanks to larger text font size.

Now is an excellent time to remind friends, family, and neighbors about the Senior Call Check program. It is important that we check in on our older adults, especially those living alone, to make sure they are okay.

The Senior Call Check program provides a daily automated call with informative messages, plus live weekly calls from a volunteer or staff member. If a participant doesn't pick up the phone after 3 attempts, an alternate person is called to check on the older adult.

The program is FREE to all Maryland residents over 65. Registration is easy by calling 1-866-50-CHECK (1-866-502-0560) or register online at aging.maryland.gov. Please share! https://aging.maryland.gov/Pages/senior-call-check.aspx

The safest way to observe Easter this year is to celebrate with people you live with, with others virtually, or outside while staying 6 feet apart. Protect yourself and loved ones from COVID-19.
• Enjoy a traditional Easter meal with those who live with you.
• Follow holiday customs like egg hunts outside while wearing a mask and staying 6 feet apart.
• Attend religious services virtually.
• Prepare and deliver a meal to a neighbor.
If you plan to celebrate with others, outdoors is safer than indoors.

Hi everyone, I’m part of a group of undergraduate students working on a proposal to design outdoor senior spaces for exercise and socialization as part of the push for “smarter” cities in the DMV, as well as an associated mobile app. We would love to hear direct suggestions from you all about what you would like to see in such a space and app. Any ideas welcome! It would truly help us shape the features of our proposed design.
Manor Care Ruxton is nasty, incompetent, inept and are only interested in patients who can bring them money. Patients who are on medical assistance are not in their interest and they want them out. They threatened to take my brother-in-law to court to get him out of their facility. He ended up in the emergency room and then a hospital room who then sent him to a very caring hospice who did not care that he had no income! Manor Care should be shut down by the state of Maryland immediately!!!!’

I want to say to the Dept of Aging, the Senior Centers and the Maryland Government and our wonderful Governor how grateful we are for everything you are doing for us. We are isolated now in our apartments and homes for six months. Without activities, access to food and the absence of family and friends. We are depressed, lonely and afraid but you have been there for us. My wife and I haven't eaten this good before and activities are brought to us on line. We will even have the Seniors eating together because you all cared about us. We see all our Senior Centers leaders handing out groceries in the hot sun and calling us to see if we are alright and we want to let you know that we are so grateful.
I have a quick question. I have been referred to multiple numbers and persons and still have not been able to obtain any information to have an intelligent conversation with my mom’s property managers about Covid-19 in her senior building. I was advised after making calls to the State and County Aging and Health Departments, Baltimore County does not currently have any regulations or protocol for senior housing. The regulations, policy, or procedures are only for Assisted Living programs and nursing homes. I have Safeway delivering to this building to prevent my mom from going out. I am Concerned, after three months of deaths in our senior communities there is no protocol for seniors and their families. I am concerned this may place my mom and those in her building, and those delivering to senior buildings may be at risk. I need to know what I should be expecting from the Government and/or the senior complex, which has seniors of all ages, What should I expect from management to keep my mom and others safe and hold them accountable? It feels like Maryland government has become so populated you talk to multiple people who do not have an answer. I know you all ate very busy. However I would prefer an answer and not another dead end referral please. Information will empower families to help each other keep safe. I look forward to your response.
