FCPS Maryland has implemented electric school buses (ESBs)🚌🔌 and charging infrastructure on their own.
⚫Through the FY25 Electric School Bus Grant Program, FCPS will deploy an additional 4 ESBs and charging stations.
⚫These ESBs and charging stations will support reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting better health for students and bus drivers, and helping to foster local community engagement in these types of projects⚡.

Maryland’s Eastern Shore is getting its first net-zero energy school🏫 coming next school year.
⚫With support from MEA, Wicomico County Public Schools is building Fruitland Primary School with a highly energy-efficient design and a 660 kW solar array☀️.
⚫Once complete, the school will be the first net-zero energy school on Maryland’s Eastern Shore - producing as much energy as it consumes through efficiency and renewable energy🔋.
⚫But Fruitland Primary is about more than energy performance. The school will strengthen community resilience, provide a high-performance teaching tool for students, and serve as an important community resource in times of need.
⚫This is what investing in our schools can look like: cleaner energy, stronger communities, and a hands-on model for the next generation💪.

⚫Last school year, Baltimore City Public Schools opened the newly constructed Furley Elementary School, designed to be a net-zero energy school with support from MEA.
⚫The school combines energy-efficient design, a geothermal HVAC system, and a 557 kW solar array☀️ to help reduce its energy use and emissions.
⚫But Furley’s impact extends beyond the building itself. As a hub for recreation, community engagement, and local partnerships, it serves students and neighbors long after the school day ends🎒.
⚫Furley shows what happens when we invest in both our schools and our communities: we build a more energy-efficient, resilient, and sustainable Maryland🦀.
