Our Story

Restorative Response Baltimore works with communities, institutions and schools to create environments lending to restorative justice, while also working to provide alternatives to the punitive models of the criminal justice system and school discipline.

We imagine a world where strong relationships, authentic communication, and the desire to understand one another thrive. We trust that solutions reside within our individual communities, and we believe that every voice must be heard.

Our Beginnings

In 1995, Dr. Lauren Abramson introduced community conferencing in Baltimore. After learning about the process at a conference of the Silvan S. Tomkins Institute in Philadelphia in 1994 — from Australian David Moore — Lauren attended the first facilitator training workshops conducted in the United States by Transformative Justice Australia.
