Today we are sharing historic images from the Archives and Special collections that show the two mascots of Loyola and Notre Dame. The first image features the Loyola Greyhound around 1986. The second image features the Notre Dame Gator participating in the "Running of the Gators" reunion event in 2000.

We are already halfway through August. That means that the fall semester at Loyola and Notre Dame starts soon. We are excited to welcome new students and welcome back returning ones!

To celebrate, we are sharing of the earliest images we have of freshmen orientation for both campuses in the Archives and Special Collections. The first image is of Notre Dame's freshman orientation from sometime around the 1950s. The second image is of Loyola's freshmen orientation in 1974.

Gound was broken on the new expansion and enhancement of the Donnelly Science Center at Loyola this summer. The Donnelly Science Center originally opened in 1978 with its official dedication occurring on December 3, 1978. We are sharing images from the Archives and Special Collections of the original December 1978 dedication featuring the Donnellys, Father Sellinger of Loyola, and more at the event.

Even though today is beautiful, the remnants of Hurricane Debby were felt in the Baltimore area last week. We hope everyone was safe despite the flooding, felled trees, and other damage.

Next up for our graduating seniors is Alanna Anderson! Majoring in Liberal Arts at Notre Dame of Maryland University, Alanna has been with LNDL since the Fall of 2022. Alanna's favorite part of the library? its welcoming environment, being surrounded by books, and the great supervisors and staff.

Alanna is excited to enjoy her last summer break before *official* adulthood, which she'll be doing by continuing to work at LNDL for the summer! We're happy to have Alanna's smiling face with us for a bit longer. Congrats Alanna!

Since graduation is just around the corner (literally!) we want to honor our graduating senior student assistants! First, we have Julia, a Psychology/Theater major (with a Forensic Studies minor) at Loyola.

Julia has worked at LNDL for 2.5 years and claims her favorite space to hang out is the large study room (you all know the one). To start off the summer, Julia is looking forward to celebrate her graduation with all of her friends. Congratulations to Julia & thank you for being part of the LNDL family!

October is American Archives Month! To celebrate we are sharing a video clip from a film in the Loyola Notre Dame Library Archives and Special Collections called Because It Makes Sense (1972). This film discusses the creation of LNDL to serve two institutions @loyolamaryland and @notredameofmd as well as glimpses of life on both campuses at that time. This is one of the many interesting items we hold within our archive including student publications, photographs, yearbooks, artwork, and more.
