Child First Authority

Child First Authority Child First Authority’s mission is to develop youth by strengthening and reforming schools.

Child First Authority (CFA) provides funding to (1) organize high quality, after school and in-school programs in Baltimore City Public Schools, (2) organize parents, school staff, and community partners to act on their vision of a brighter future for BCPS children. CFA was established in 1996 in response to a community organizing campaign by its founding partner BUILD (Baltimoreans United in Lead

ership Development). Hundreds of citizens expressed the need for safe space, academic achievement, and opportunity for children in Baltimore City Schools. Throughout the years, CFA has built relationships with community organizations and educational institutions. CFA works with students and families to ensure that students (1) attend school at a high rate, (2) have access to project-based learning opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), and (3) have access to professional art instruction and cultural instruction. Today, CFA partners with 17 schools throughout Baltimore City, including 9 after school programs.

✨Advocacy Day in Annapolis was a SUCCESS✨

Our organization paraded the halls of The Maryland Senate’s Office Building yesterday welcomed with open arms and ears, sporting our Child First gear, as we shared our story and the stories of our awesome Child First parents!

Every person we spoke with was eager to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful conversations about the importance of education funding.

We were not only heard, but we were ENCOURAGED to come back and continue the fight for the changes we know would not only benefit our organizations work but all those who provide services to our youth/families/and communities.

To EVERYONE who showed us love, support, and genuine kindness, we thank you and hope to see you again!

TO OUR PARENTS, we cannot thank you enough for taking the time out to join us in this opportunity to share our passion for our mission!

Liberty Elementary School hosted a shoe giveaway for students sponsored by GEICO and the incredible women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.! 🎉

This amazing partnership helped ensure EVERY STUDENT stepped into the new year with confidence, comfort, and style by providing scholars with a brand new pair of sneakers. 🌟

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Community School Coordinator, Ms. Dorothy Flintall for organizing this event, and GEICO and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for their generosity and commitment to supporting our youth. 💚💗

Today we gathered at Brown Advisory for a Principal Convening to have an agenda-led open discussion surrounding student and family needs, funding and staffing, academic deficiency, redesigning what education and community means, how to support multilingual families, family engagement, the lack of principal voice in district and city level decisions, and what is needed from from our organization to help our schools succeed!
