A recent audit by SSA OIG has identified deficiencies in how court-ordered restitutions for fraud are recorded and monitored. The review found that while many cases were handled correctly, about 35% of sampled cases had issues, leaving approximately $1.1 million in outstanding balances uncollected. The OIG estimates that up to $18.6 million in restitutions may not have been properly recorded or monitored. The report also noted that some individuals did not receive required overpayment notices. These findings highlight the need for improved oversight to ensure restitution payments are collected and government funds are protected. Read our press release: https://ow.ly/gM9G50Z5BTi
