While we gather for iftar in warm masjids and homes, surrounded by family and abundance, a homeless Muslim mother is breaking her fast behind a 7‑Eleven, eating from a trash can. I know because I received the call as well as so many others. Calls most people never hear. Calls that are easy to ignore when you are far from their reality. She is devoted to pleasing ALLAH (SWT). Yet she is forced to fulfill this sacred pillar of fasting under conditions no believer should ever endure.
She makes wudu in public restrooms.
She prays in bus stations and parks.
She sleeps in unsafe shelters with men, addicts, and the mentally unstable.
And when those shelters are full, she is pushed into churches that require her to denounce ALLAH (SWT) just to have a bed. Still, she tries to hold onto her Islam. A Question for Every Fasting Believer! How can we believe our fasts and prayers are accepted when we turn away the very women which cannot be sheltered due to a lack of funding? Although not enough to support even one month of the financial support needed to care for all those referred to Muslimat Al Nisaa Shelter nationwide, seeking a solution to their homelessness, only 3 masjids provide any zakat at all.
I receive 5–7 calls every single day from every state in the country. For 50 years, I have answered these calls.
But I cannot do this alone. This Ramadhan, Your Zakat Is Not Charity, It Is Rescue. Your donation will provide, a safe, dignified shelter for Muslim women escaping violence, prevent women from being forced into unsafe shelters, ensure no woman breaks her fast in a parking lot or eats from a trash bin. In this Blessed month of Ramadhan, repair and expand the only Muslim‑run transitional home of its kind. Fulfill a Qur’anic mandate to protect the vulnerable. This is ʿibādah. This is justice. This is our collective amanah. As multi‑million‑dollar masjids rise across the nation, we must ask: What will we say when ALLAH (SWT) asks why we left HIS maidservants homeless? Give for Her Sake. Your donation can be the difference between safety and danger, dignity and humiliation, faith preserved or faith coerced. Donate today. Be the reason she breaks her fast with dignity.
