Civic Works Civic Works is a Baltimore area nonprofit and an AmeriCorps organization. We strengthen Baltimore.

Civic Works operates education, community improvement, and green job programs. Every year, over 200 of our AmeriCorps members tutor and mentor students, build community parks and gardens, help homeowners conserve energy, recruit volunteers, grow food for low-income residents, rehabilitate abandoned houses, involve parents in Baltimore City schools, and make homes safer for older adults. We also train 200 Baltimore residents each year for employment in the healthcare and green jobs industries.

Congratulations to our YouthBuild Class of 2026! 🎊🎓

Our YouthBuild trainees are committed to building their careers in construction trades, and today, we celebrated those who earned their GEDs over the past year during the program.

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of these students for their dedication and perseverance. Earning a GED is a tremendous accomplishment, and we’re excited to see where their determination and skills take them next! 🎉

🌞 Summer: Your savings are often highest. Longer, sunnier days mean more solar production, while your panels can help offset your air-conditioning use.

🌥️ Winter: Savings may dip a little as shorter days and cloudier weather reduce solar production.

A flashback to the celebration of our 50th Baltimore Shines installation last December.

During the press conference marking this milestone, William Gibson, a participant from the program’s very first round more than two years ago, shared a recent energy bill. He happily shared that he had gone three months without paying anything for electricity.

Solar helps clients like Mr. Gibson lower their energy costs by:

☀️ Lower Grid Use: Generate your own electricity during the day and draw less power from the grid.

💰 Fixed Costs: Sunlight is free, helping stabilize energy expenses for decades.

🔋 Battery Storage: Store extra solar power to use at night or during peak utility rates.

🏡 Greater Energy Independence: Rely less on the grid and gain protection from rising energy costs.
