Marylanders are already experiencing droughts, intense storms, and extreme temperatures from climate change. Oil and gas drilling in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would only make those impacts worse. That’s why I joined 13 other attorneys general in filing a brief challenging a rushed and incomplete environmental review that failed to consider alternatives and sidelined public participation. Our residents, wildlife, and environment deserve better.

My Statement on Federal Court Victory Protecting Maryland Voter Data:

“With today’s ruling, Maryland’s federal court has added its voice to the unanimous chorus of judges who have said states do not have to follow the Trump Administration’s demand to turn over their unredacted voter registration databases. These databases contain the names, addresses, and Social Security numbers of millions of Marylanders, sensitive personal information that Marylanders have a right to keep private. DOJ sued Maryland and twenty-nine other jurisdictions for their refusal to hand over the unredacted, sensitive information, and nine courts have now agreed the Administration’s demand was unlawful. Our Office will always protect Marylanders from unlawful federal overreach that puts their personal information at risk.”

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and announce that enslaved people were free, more than two years after it was signed.

As we reflect on this history, we also recognize that freedom, equality, and justice are promises that must be continually protected and defended.

Here in Maryland, that work continues. I remain committed to protecting civil rights, defending equal justice under the law, and ensuring every Marylander is treated with dignity, fairness, and respect.

Nuclear microreactors are largely untested and experimental, but the Trump administration wants to fast-track their licensing and deployment. I joined a coalition urging the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to maintain its focus on public and environmental safety and ensure these technologies receive the thorough review they deserve before deployment.

Innovation and energy security matter, but not at the expense of public safety.

A Baltimore man has pleaded guilty and been sentenced for smuggling untaxed ci******es into Maryland, using counterfeit tax stamps, and evading Maryland’s cigarette tax.

He was ordered to serve jail time and pay more than $68,000 in restitution to the State. My Office will continue prosecuting those who profit through fraud and protecting Maryland taxpayers and businesses.

No one should go hungry because they can’t afford food. That’s why I joined a coalition of attorneys general urging Congress to add language to the upcoming Farm Bill that reverses recent cuts to food assistance, such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, and rolls back burdensome eligibility restrictions.

Federal cuts are hitting our communities hard. 680,000 Marylanders depend on SNAP, including nearly 270,000 children. Stricter work requirements and new rules are forcing families off the program. That’s wrong. I remain committed to protecting food security for every Marylander.
