Video Premier!!! Do you have about 30 minutes to spare? Check out this 1943 US Navy Department - Bureau of Aeronautics movie about a day in the life of the Armed Guard.
This movie does a great job explaining convoys how the AG were trained, the activities at the Brooklyn Armed Guard Center, how an AG detachment was recruited for a ship and equipped.
The movie takes you onto what I think is a Liberty ship. Shows the AG quarters and how the LONG duty of standing watch was conducted. The 3 conditions of readiness and the cute 1940's animation. Don't forget Hungry Harry.
I believe this was filmed in part at the Brooklyn, NY Armed Guard Center. The Armed Guard School in Little Creek, VA. Maybe the Lido Beach, NY gunnery range, and some scenes filmed on ship just of the NY coast, plus a smattering of live combat footage.
