Delegate Regina T. Boyce will engage in a conversation with Delegate Lily Qi at the Enoch Pratt Free Library on October 13 at 7:00 pm.

Delegate Qi, who represents Montgomery County, will discuss her book, “Elected American.” In it, she shares her journey as the only U.S. state legislator to have experienced China’s Cultural Revolution firsthand. Qi offers a unique cross-cultural perspective on American politics and contemporary Asian American identity. Highly recommended!

Thirty years after her solo journey to America, Chinese-born Lily Qi became a Maryland state delegate. It was a gratifying moment she did not take for granted. Qi had overcome a viral WeChat disinformation campaign from her Chinese community and met with skepticism from the Democratic establishment....

WHAT ARE THE WEAVER AWARDS?
Weave: The Social Fabric Project is an initiative of the Aspen Institute dedicated to strengthenng trust and belonging in communities across the United States.

The Weaver Awards have been happening in Baltimore for years, but starting now, Central Baltimore Partnership is serving as a host site to facilitate a new iteration of the initiative for Central Baltimore only, with clear capacity-building support.

WHY THIS INITIATIVE?
Social trust is cultivated through relationships. In times like this, we need to support those community leaders that are making connections, leading with heart, and spreading joy by leaning into each other in a hyperlocal way.

The Weaver Awards offer rare support for the community organizing that is essential to thriving, equitable, sustainable neighborhoods.

WHO’S ELIGIBLE?
✔ Apply if you live, work, serve, or connect in any of the eleven Central Baltimore Partnership neighborhoods.
✔ Projects should address a shared need in the community, be open to all, and build relationships between neighbors.

Along with State Senator Mary Washington, PhD, Delegate Regina T. Boyce and Delegate Elizabeth Embry, I am excited to support John Willis who is running for Central Committee in District 43A. I first met him in the late 80's, when I was learning City politics at the now-largely-defunct political club level. John has always been a teacher and a mentor to those who wished to understand how and why government works and help it to work better. He served as Secretary of State under Governor Glendening, as a professor at University of Baltimore and in many other roles, including as one of my representatives on last term's Charter Review Commission. To further quote Delegate Embry, we have a fantastic Central Committee and John would be a great addition.

With State Senator Mary Washington, PhD, Delegate Regina T. Boyce and Comptroller Bill Henry, I am excited to support John Willis who is running for Central Committee in District 43A. John is a very old friend who has been involved in Maryland government and the Democratic Party for decades. We met when we both worked for Brian Frosh but John has served as Secretary of State under Governor Glendening, as a professor at University of Baltimore and in many other roles. We have a fantastic Central Committee and John would be a great addition.
