The Bromo Arts District, which received state designation as an arts & entertainment district in July 2012, is home to a diverse range of cultural organizations, visual & performing artists, businesses, dining options and residents. rict is easily accessed by public transportation including MTA bus, light rail and subway, and the Charm City Circulator. It's located in close proximity to the city’s main sports venues, the convention center, central business district, and the Inner Harbor.

Lexington Market just got an artist-in-residence. The Baltimore Museum of Art 's "Practicing Place" lands in Bromo with Baltimore artist Ashley Minner Jones — six weeks of folklore-meets-art-making, kicking off at our September Art Walk.

Thursday, September 10, Ashley's leading a salt paper printing workshop — hands-on with one of photography's oldest processes.

Starting in September, catch her work-in-progress Thursday–Saturday, 10 AM–5 PM. Drop by, get hands-on, tell your Baltimore story.

On Thursday, September 10, Maryland Center for History and Culture is opening its doors during the Art Walk for an evening of art, makers, history, and conversation. Here’s what’s happening:

From 5–8 PM, stop by the Makers Market and Pop-Up to shop local artists and artisans in the Meyerhoff Courtyard, explore a special pop-up exhibition from Tulip’s Promise featuring artwork by local refugee children, and enjoy free museum admission.

And the programming continues into the fall with Film Screening—A Life in Art: Through the Eye of Dr. Leslie King Hammond on September 17 from 6–8:30 PM, WayFinder Family Theater: Shadows & Stories Performance on September 26 from 1–2 PM, and Passion & Purpose Closing: Reflecting on Voices of Maryland’s Civil Rights Activists on December 6 from 2–5 PM—all free!

There’s something pretty special about seeing Baltimore history up close, and during the Art Walk, you can do just that.

Take a guided tour through the historic clock room and Glass Company Museum, and get up close with the magnificent mechanism that has kept time over Baltimore for more than a century.

The Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower was built in 1911 by the founder of the Emerson Drug Company, Isaac Emerson, and modeled after the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy. At 15 stories tall, it was once the tallest building in Baltimore.

Today, it’s home to working artists and remains one of Baltimore’s most beloved cultural landmarks. During the Art Walk, meet ElSe, Janet Jeffers, Jim Conyers, TeoP, and Tyshay Thomas in their open studios, explore a new group exhibition, and experience the Tower in a whole new way.

Meet Mark Anthony West, an international interdisciplinary artist, institutional director, and cultural consultant and strategist whose work connects creative communities across hemispheres. A Bromo based artist, Mark is currently living in Rio de Janeiro and works as the Director of Art Space Vidigal.

Celebrating Afro-diasporic art across borders: “Size Matters” brings together more than 30 Black artists from around the world for a new exhibition on view at Artscape in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Approximately 12 Baltimore-based artists are being featured in an international exhibition at Artspace Vidigal, hosted by Mark West, giving audiences across the globe a chance to experience the creativity coming out of Bromo.

DJ AAVE
A Baltimore-based DJ, drag performer, and multidisciplinary artist known for high-energy sets that blend pop, house, Baltimore club, vogue, and rave influences. Expect a fun, eclectic, dance-forward set built to keep the energy moving.

Micah E. Wood
Photographer, musician, educator, and longtime fixture in Baltimore’s creative community. His music is a true product of Charm City—shaped by years spent immersed in everything from experimental hip hop to dance music. His latest album, You, Me, the Reign, is his first full-length release in three years.

Want to get a little closer to the creative process? Step into Qrcky
home studio during the fall Bromo Art Walk and see the magic happen in real time.

You’ll be able to catch live painting and bronze pouring demonstrations to see how an idea transforms from process to finished artwork right before your eyes.

Qrcky’s work explores identity, memory, the Black diaspora, and urban spaces, making this a stop you won’t want to miss.
